About The Position

The Yard Associate is responsible for safely, accurately, and promptly assembling customer orders, and loading and unloading building materials and products according to customer orders and company standards. The role supports delivery, transfers within the yard, and customer pick-up, while helping maintain an organized, clean, and safe lumberyard. The position also involves assisting customers, handling merchandise questions, and following company safety procedures and policies.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
Maintain product knowledge of items carried in the store and yard.
Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong customer service and problem-solving abilities.
Basic math and measurement skills.
Basic computer navigation skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.
Regular and predictable attendance.
Initiative and reliability with minimal supervision.
Safety-conscious attitude.
Ability to exert up to 50–90 pounds of force regularly.
Ability to operate pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other yard equipment.
Ability to perform repetitive motions associated with retail equipment, bend frequently, stand for extended periods, and lift.
Ability to work outdoors, sometimes in extreme climates.
Ability to communicate verbally with customers and team members.

Responsibilities

Visualize, fulfill, and implement the company vision and core values.
Assemble and stage customer orders accurately and efficiently for delivery, inner-yard transfer, or customer pick-up.
Check in deliveries, verify products received, and complete paperwork for incoming and outgoing materials.
Inform management of order delays and out-of-stock items.
Safely operate yard equipment, power tools, and forklifts.
Conduct routine pre- and post-operation equipment inspections, maintain equipment logs, and report deficiencies to a supervisor.
Prioritize and perform work according to business needs and supervisor direction.
Maintain storage areas, entry and exit points, and yard areas.
Assist customers arriving for material pick-ups or returns.
Keep the lumberyard clean, organized, and safe, and maintain a clean, professional working environment.
Deliver materials to commercial and residential customers and load and unload materials.
Load lumber and other merchandise into customer vehicles.
Answer customer questions about merchandise and advise customers on merchandise selection.
Attend and participate in required company-sponsored training programs.
Follow safety protocols and company policies and procedures.
Perform other duties, responsibilities, or tasks as assigned.
