Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of radiologic technology (college or hospital based)
  • Illinois Emergency Management Agency Division of Nuclear Safety
  • Registered or registry eligible with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • CPR certification
  • Modality certification with the associated governing body (if applicable)

Responsibilities

  • Over communicates to customers regarding delays, and what to expect
  • Maintains professional demeanor and appearance

  • Works as a team player with a good attitude; develops and maintains positive working relationships within and across all departments.
  • Review all orders for correctness
  • Identifies patients with two identifiers
  • Explains procedures thoroughly, educates patients and families, takes a complete and accurate patient history
  • Transfers patients safely, utilizes consent and timeout as appropriate
  • Administers contrast correctly (if applicable)
  • Obtains, creates, handles and administers radiopharmaceuticals correctly, (if applicable)
  • Assists the radiologist during procedures; adheres to aseptic technique
  • Uses and maintains equipment properly
  • Positions patients according to protocol
  • Performs all types of x ray / fluoroscopic and modality exams (if applicable) competently and up to current standards of practice
  • Practices all facets of radiation safety, including shielding; uses techniques that adhere to the ALARA principle
  • Ensures the technical quality and annotation of images
  • Completes and verifies all documentation, sends images and documentation to the radiologist
  • Confirms charges are complete and accurate
  • Reports patient, visitor and employee incidents immediately
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations
  • Provides a safe environment for patients, employees and visitors
  • Engages in infection control practices, isolation procedures and fall prevention techniques
  • Familiar with and maintains State, Federal and Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations and guidelines
  • Maintains all requirements for all mandatory licensing
  • Participates in department meetings, inservices, continuing education and PI programs; adheres to changes in hospital processes and policies
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and responds to constructive criticism in a positive manner
  • Properly reports issues and works constructively to resolve them
  • Maintains good attendance, is rarely late of absent
  • Is efficient, avoids waste; utilizes down time productively, minimizes overtime and observes staffing standards
