About The Position

Under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, completes the day-to-day MRI, radiological CT, Diagnostic Imaging, and C-Arm Imaging functions to produce quality images for the ordering physicians. This role involves interviewing patients to obtain history and inform them about safety, contrast media, and procedures. The X-Ray Tech must demonstrate compliance with state, federal, and accrediting body standards in radiology, including proper cleaning of equipment and handling of biohazardous materials. Ensuring patient and employee safety through competency in equipment use and safety protocols, such as posting radiation safety signs and monitoring dosimeter badges, is crucial. The position requires preparing patients for X-ray procedures, accurately entering patient information into the computer, selecting appropriate protocols, and scanning patients within acceptable time frames. Safe transportation of equipment and patients is also a responsibility. The X-Ray Tech performs X-ray procedures on appropriate anatomical regions, adheres to hospital policies and procedures, and identifies potential risks to patients to minimize injury. Demonstrating the hospital's philosophy, mission, and values, applying customer service principles, and maintaining confidentiality are essential. The role also involves maintaining positive working relationships, adhering to the Code of Conduct, displaying honesty and respect, and complying with National Patient Safety Goals and universal precautions. Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties in this job classification. Demonstrates respect for diverse backgrounds of all patients, families, and co-workers.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an AMA-approved program in Radiologic Technology.
  • Minimum of two (2) years as a technologist in a surgical setting.
  • Current BLS certification through an ARC or AHA accredited program.
  • Registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, or registry eligible to be obtained within 1 year of hire and licensed by the North Carolina State Board of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Effective communication skills; both orally and written.
  • Computer skills needed.
  • Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews patients for the purpose of obtaining patient history and informing patients regarding patient safety, contrast media contraindications and patient procedures.
  • Demonstrates compliance with state, federal and accrediting body standard in radiology.
  • Demonstrates proper cleaning x-ray equipment and proper handling of biohazard materials.
  • Assures patient and employee safety through competency in the use of all equipment and safety equipment including, but not limited to, posting of the radiation safety signs, monitoring of dosimeter badges, proper documentation of radiation exposure according to policy and procedures.
  • Prepares patient for X Ray procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, providing instructions related to breathing, and observing.
  • Enters required patient information accurately into the computer; selects appropriate protocol and scans patients in accordance with protocol within acceptable time frames; makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Transports equipment and patients in a safe manner to prevent injury to self, patients or employees and prevent damage to equipment
  • Performs X Ray procedures on appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols.
  • Predictable and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position
  • Performs assigned responsibilities as X-ray, C-arm fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, Mammography and procedure technologist as necessary based on competencies and certifications.
  • Utilizes concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.
  • Adheres to all Hospital Policies and Procedures, specifically Guidelines for Appropriate Conduct, Corporate Compliance, Diversity, and Confidentiality.
  • Identifies potential risks to patients: identifies risks to patients in order to reduce incidence of injury; identifies actions to eliminate, minimize or report risks; identifies procedures to follow in the event of an incident; reports processes for common problems, failures and user errors.
  • Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.
  • Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day-to-day activities of the position.
