About The Position

Under the direction of the Sr. Clinical Practice Manager for Benning Road and the Director of Operations for Surgical Subspecialties, the X-Ray & Mammography Technician will perform diagnostic exams for the Breast Surgery, Orthopedics, Surgical Oncology, and other assigned specialties. The X-Ray Tech performs a full range of diagnostic radiographic examinations in the department, clinics, and operating room, ensuring that radiation safety precautions are taken. They adhere to policies and procedures for obtaining radiographic studies, performing correct exams on the correct patient, and providing basic information to patients and families. The technician assists Radiologists with special radiological examinations, maintains radiographic equipment, and ensures timely completion of exams using Radiology Information System (RIS), Enterprise Radiology Solutions (ERS), and Enterprise Electronic Record (EMR). They operate digital and fluoroscopic radiographic equipment and participate in learning opportunities. The Mammo Tech demonstrates understanding of imaging principles, theory, anatomy, and pathology, utilizing appropriate techniques and positioning. They communicate effectively with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent, and demonstrate effective use of radiation protection procedures. The technician maintains an orderly, safe, and clean environment, ensures rooms are stocked, and performs routine quality control testing and maintenance of equipment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited school/program of radiography
  • Minimum of 1 year of Imaging experience as a Rad tech in a hospital/healthcare environment
  • Must be able to perform in 2 or more modalities with at least even amount of time spent rotating in each annually based on the needs of the unit.
  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) registered as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • Must obtain advanced certification in applicable modality within 1 year of training
  • BLS certification preferred or achieved in first 90 days

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic exams for Breast Surgery, Orthopedics, Surgical Oncology, and other assigned specialties.
  • Perform a full range of diagnostic radiographic examinations in the department, clinics, and operating room.
  • Ensure radiation safety precautions are taken.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures for obtaining radiographic studies, including performing correct exams on the correct patient.
  • Provide basic information to patients and/or families about procedures and answer questions.
  • Assist Radiologists in performing special radiological examinations.
  • Assist with the upkeep of radiographic equipment and adhere to all related safety requirements.
  • Report needed equipment repairs.
  • Ensure timely completion of all exams through tracking, scanning, and other technical workflow related to RIS, ERS, and EMR.
  • Operate digital and fluoroscopic radiographic equipment.
  • Participate in orientation and other learning opportunities.
  • Exemplify SPIRIT values and actively participate in Patient Safety Standards and tasks.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Technical Aides to ensure efficient room turnover.
  • Coordinate, communicate, and collaborate with Patient Financial Associates to minimize delays and potential safety issues.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Imaging principles, theory, anatomy and pathology processes while utilizing appropriate techniques and positioning for optimal examinations.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent.
  • Demonstrate effective use of radiation protection procedures with collimation devices and protective shielding.
  • Maintain an orderly, safe and clean environment.
  • Ensure rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies for procedures.
  • Perform and document routine quality control testing of equipment.
  • Perform/recognize the need for routine maintenance of imagers/processors to maintain consistent quality images.
