About The Position

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at the University at Albany serves all of the college's academic units and is jointly sponsored by New York State, the Office of Special Programs, and the University at Albany. The program's objective is to provide each admitted student with the necessary services and assistance for success in their degree program. The ultimate goal is to make higher education accessible for students who may not meet traditional college admission criteria but possess the potential and motivation for academic success. The EOP lecturer will be administratively responsible to the EOP director and will collaborate with other EOP instructors, counselors, and program staff. This role involves teaching in the fall and spring semesters and requires the ability to work effectively with college students who are economically and educationally disadvantaged.

Requirements

Master of Arts in English or terminal degree in a closely related discipline from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
2 to 5 years of experience teaching college students.
Experience using technology in the classroom.
Experience assessing student needs (pre- and post-assessment).
Strong commitment to working with economically/educationally disadvantaged students.
Sensitivity to motivate low income/first college generation students.
Ability to effectively communicate with other EOP instructors, counselors, and students.
Ability to direct students to other areas for tutorial support.
Demonstrated ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within a diverse campus community.
Demonstrated ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.

Nice To Haves

A doctorate is preferred.
Prior experience working with students in EOP or a similar program.

Responsibilities

Teach 2 sections each semester of EOP courses, requiring 4.5 hours of instruction and 4 hours of office hours per week.
Implement the instructional goals of the EOP high-intensity model.
Ensure EOP students acquire necessary competencies in a particular academic area.
Conduct one-on-one and group conferences for study skills purposes.
Create and maintain channels of referral for academically underperforming students.
Advocate for non-traditional/EOP college students.
Maintain accurate and complete records of student performance.
Provide student progress recommendations to the EOP director.
Contribute to curriculum revisions and syllabus construction.
Participate in professional activities.
Participate in scheduled staff meetings.
