About The Position

The Writing Fellow/Academic Support Coordinator—Liberal Arts position addresses the need for personalized instruction and holistic support programs in English and writing-intensive courses, especially for students in underrepresented groups. Primary responsibilities include directing the liberal arts tutoring program in the Tutoring Center, including recruiting, mentoring, and teaching peer tutors; drafting and implementing policies and procedures; providing direct support to students; and collecting and analyzing assessment data. This position is also responsible for designing academic support initiatives to increase success for students in underrepresented groups in collaboration with faculty and Academic Support colleagues. It also serves as the academic support liaison to fine arts and liberal arts departments, including promoting best practices in teaching and assessing writing.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in English or a relevant field OR at least 2 years’ experience tutoring writing in a higher education setting
  • Applicant must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
  • Must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins.

  • A master’s degree in English or a relevant field
  • Knowledge of universal/inclusive design and an ability to cultivate an inclusive learning environment for disabled students
  • Expertise in writing studies and the ability to support a translingual and linguistically inclusive learning environment
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, religious, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of college students, staff, and faculty
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Prior administrative experience in an academic support center
  • Familiarity with research methodologies in education
  • Successful college classroom teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Directs the Liberal Arts tutoring program

  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department
