Writing Associate Producer, MS NOW State of Play
About The Position
MS NOW is hiring a Writing Associate Producer for State of Play, a new weekday show airing Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET, hosted by Peter Alexander. The position is represented by the Writers Guild of America East. The role researches, reports, and writes daily segments; helps determine video and sound for assigned segments; and contributes to editorial planning and story development. It also produces segments for digital platforms and other on-screen content for MS NOW weekend programming. The position is based in New York, NY, and requires flexibility to work under tight deadlines, including during breaking news.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in journalism, such as cable or network news, a website, or a newspaper.
- Strong writing skills and knowledge of American politics, American history, and global news.
- Strong research and reporting skills.
- Must be willing to work in New York, NY.
- Must have unrestricted work authorization in the United States.
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news.

- Exceptional editorial skills, including the ability to recognize stories with potential for provocative, compelling television.
- Knowledge of current events, politics, and pop culture.
- Wide-ranging reading of news, including op-eds.
- Edit room experience and breaking news experience.
- Proficiency in both tape and desktop editing.
- Ability to handle daily script deadline pressure.
Responsibilities
- Research, report, and write daily segments.
- Determine video and sound for assigned segments.
- Communicate daily story development with the senior producer.
- Research, write, and edit MS NOW lower-third banner chyrons.
- Participate in editorial planning.
- Lead production of segments for digital platforms, including YouTube, social media, and MSNOW DTC products.
- Pitch story ideas.
- Produce other vital on-screen content for MS NOW weekend programming.
