About The Position

MS NOW is seeking a Segment Producer to join its newsroom. The role focuses on politics and breaking news, with an emphasis on editorial judgment, detail, and timely, impactful storytelling across linear and digital platforms. Segment Producers are assigned to specific show teams and schedules. This posting supports current and future hiring needs, and qualified applicants may be contacted as openings become available. The position requires working in New York, NY, and the ability to work flexible hours under tight deadlines, including during breaking news.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Strong writing skills and knowledge of American politics.
• Strong research and reporting skills.
• At least 5 years of experience in journalism, such as cable or network news, a website, or a newspaper.
• Ability to handle daily script deadline pressure.
• Willingness to work in New York, NY.
• Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
• Willingness and ability to work flexible hours under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news.

• Ability to develop story ideas, research, and plan segments.
• Ability to book guests and work with graphics and video elements.
• Exceptional editorial skills, including the ability to recognize stories with potential for provocative, compelling television.
• Knowledge of current events, politics, and pop culture.
• Wide-ranging reading of news, including opinion pieces.
• Proficiency in tape and desktop editing.
• Edit room experience.
• Breaking news experience.

Responsibilities

• Research, report, and write daily segments.
• Write and suggest interview questions for segments.
• Determine video and sound elements for assigned segments.
• Communicate daily story development with the senior producer.
• Work in the control room during the airing of live segments.
• Participate in editorial planning.
• Create content for digital platforms, social media, and MS NOW's direct-to-consumer products.
• Pitch story ideas.
