About The Position

This is a remote, volunteer position within the US for a Writer/Content Developer. The role involves writing engaging and informative content for WeVote, a nonpartisan nonprofit technology startup focused on strengthening American Democracy. The writer will share news, information, goals, and wins for the organization, assist with content planning, research, interviewing, and writing stories, volunteer profiles, event information, and related news. The ideal candidate has excellent writing and editing skills and experience with volunteers or in a nonprofit setting. This role is suitable for journalism students building portfolios or freelance journalists interested in covering the evolving election landscape. WeVote is a 100% volunteer and remote organization building open-source mobile technologies to mobilize voters.

Requirements

Excellent writing and editing skills.
Experience working with volunteers and/or in a nonprofit setting.
Current journalism students or recent graduates seeking portfolio-building opportunities.
Freelance journalists interested in civic engagement and voting rights coverage.
Strong writing and editing skills with journalism clips to share.
Experience with WordPress.

Responsibilities

Write election/voter news related information for our blog and cover WeVote volunteers.
Help voters make informed decisions through straightforward, informational reporting.
Pitch story ideas and work on editor assignments.
Research and interview sources for volunteer profiles, event coverage, and election-related news.
Collaborate with editors and team members (includes weekly Tuesday meetings, ~1 hour).
Receive bylines and clips for your portfolio.
