The Worship Pastor at Summerville Baptist Church has the opportunity to serve in a role that reaches far beyond planning music for a Sunday morning service. This is a pastoral ministry centered on helping the church experience and respond to the glory of God through biblically faithful corporate worship. Because Summerville believes that ministry flows from a life abiding in Christ, the Worship Pastor will have the privilege of helping people become more deeply connected to Christ through worship, while also discipling and equipping those who serve in the music ministry. The next Worship Pastor will have the opportunity to shepherd multiple generations, from children to adults, while bringing together choir, praise team, vocalists, and instrumentalists as one unified ministry. For a pastor who believes worship is fundamentally about God rather than performance, this is an exciting opportunity to invest deeply in people, develop and disciple leaders, strengthen congregational worship, and become part of a church family that is already committed to serving its community and advancing God’s kingdom. Summerville Baptist Church is a close-knit, multi-generational, biblically conservative Southern Baptist congregation located in Phenix City, Alabama, with a ministry philosophy built around John 15:5: lives connected to Christ through worship, connected to the church through small groups, and connected to the community through service. The church offers a genuinely multigenerational ministry setting with Sunday Bible study and worship, Wednesday family programming, children’s and student ministries, adult discipleship, missions, and practical community outreach. The church’s ministry footprint is widespread, with a focus on developing disciples and reaching its community. A more detailed job description will be provided during the interview process. The Worship Pastor will provide spiritual and organizational leadership for the church’s entire music ministry, working closely with the Senior Pastor and pastoral team to plan and lead weekly corporate worship. Responsibilities will include selecting biblically faithful and theologically rich music, leading a blended worship environment, directing rehearsals, coordinating schedules, and shepherding the choir, praise team, vocalists, and instrumentalists as one unified ministry. The position will also involve recruiting, developing, discipling, and encouraging musicians and volunteers, as well as providing leadership for seasonal worship services, special events, and other opportunities for the church to worship together. The Worship Pastor will also develop volunteer technology teams and work alongside those serving in sound, media, livestream, and presentation ministries. Beyond Sunday morning, this is a pastoral leadership position with opportunities to influence the spiritual health of the entire church. He will participate in staff meetings and ministry planning while providing pastoral care and helping develop future worship leaders and ministry volunteers.
