About The Position

The Public Service Commission (PSC) ensures Alberta has a professional, non-partisan and diverse public service that proudly serves Albertans. The expertise and talent that PSC staff bring to their work is critical to our overall success, as our Ministry is responsible for delivering HR services in all HR functional areas, internal communications, and employee engagement to the Government of Alberta. As a Workplace Conduct Investigator, you will conduct thorough employment investigations across the Alberta Public Service. You will investigate matters in relation to the Respectful Workplace Policy (RWP), misconduct, Code of Conduct, information security breaches, and more. You will be responsible for gathering facts, making conclusions and coming to findings through analysis against relevant policies. Your work will directly inform key employment decisions and provide valuable information to leaders to effectively manage the workforce. The work done by this position is instrumental in upholding healthy and respectful work environments across the Government of Alberta.

Requirements

  • Proven experience conducting workplace, regulatory or administrative investigation.
  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking to assess evidence and determine defensible findings.
  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to produce clear, detailed and credible reports.
  • The ability to remain neutral, objective and resilient in high-stakes and emotionally charged situations.
  • Knowledge of workplace legislation, policy and investigative best practices.
  • A collaborative approach to working with HR, leadership, unions and other stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as Human Resources Management, Labour Relations, Business Administration, Psychology, Law or Legal Studies, Criminology or Sociology, Industrial Relations, or Public Administration, plus two years of related experience.
  • A related two-year diploma in social science discipline or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution and four years of related experience or
  • A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and five years of related experience.
  • Experience conducting workplace, regulatory or administrative investigations.
  • Experience Interpreting and applying employment legislation, organizational policies, in order to come to findings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in HR or Labour Relations.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations, such as harassment, sexual harassment, Code of Conduct violations and misconduct.
  • Experience working within a large, unionized environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fair, impartial, and timely investigations.
  • Analyze evidence and draw objective conclusions.
  • Consider the behaviour within relevant legislation, policy, and other frameworks.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports outlining factual findings and analysis.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as Labour Relations specialists, legal advisors, HR personnel and management, to ensure the completion of accurate and reliable investigations.
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation, regulations, policies and best practices related to workplace investigations.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Use your strong interpersonal skills to engage employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Have high ethical standards and a commitment to conducting investigations with fairness, integrity and objectivity.
