About The Position

A Workover Rig Operator is responsible for operating a workover rig, supervising a crew, and ensuring customer satisfaction with services. The position works with a three- to five-person crew performing maintenance and repairs on oil and gas wells. It includes operating the rig and related equipment safely, inspecting and maintaining equipment, instructing crew members, coordinating with the customer and Rig Supervisor, and completing required documentation. The operator may also work in the shop or assist with yard maintenance and preparing rigs for deployment. This is a full-time position on a 14-day-on/7-day-off rotation. It routinely requires long hours and weekend work, including holidays, as job duties demand. Work takes place outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme wind, rain, cold, and heat. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous workover experience is preferred. A valid driver's license is required, and a Class A or B CDL is preferred.

Responsibilities

Work with a three- to five-person crew performing maintenance and repairs on oil and gas wells.
Ensure crew members arrive on time and are properly prepared; drive the crew truck.
Operate the rig safely in accordance with DOT regulations and customer requirements, including operating the power swivel.
Pull and lay down rods, tubing, casing, and other equipment as needed; perform torque calculations and specifications accurately.
Perform pipe tallying, rigging up and down, nipple up and down BOP units, and pipe handling.
Inspect workover rig equipment, fall-arrest systems, derrick, mud pumps, brake systems, and BOPs; perform BOP testing and installation as needed.
Perform daily equipment inspection and maintenance; troubleshoot maintenance issues, identify worn equipment, and submit repair or replacement requests.
Maintain the assigned rig and crew truck efficiently and keep the work site, equipment, and tools clean and in good working order.
Instruct floorhands and derrickhands in the use of rig, pumping, and safety equipment.
Understand job steps and arrange rods and tubing in the derrick correctly; understand the rig's hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
Maintain communication with the customer and Rig Supervisor and uphold productivity standards and applicable government regulations.
Complete and submit field tickets promptly and enter crew hours into the time-tracking system.
Work in the shop or assist with NDES Yard maintenance when needed; assist with repairs and preparing the workover rig for deployment.
Train new crew members, specifically Floorhand-SSEs.
Attend and participate in daily and monthly safety meetings; comply with company, customer, health and safety policies, and other applicable regulations.
Report all incidents immediately to the Rig Supervisor.
Work in all weather conditions and perform other duties as directed by management.
