About The Position

A Workover Rig Operator is responsible for all activities in regards to operating a workover rig, supervising a crew, and ensuring customer satisfaction with all services. This role involves working with a three to five person crew performing maintenance and repairs on oil and gas wells, ensuring crew members are prepared and on time, and driving the crew truck. The operator must safely operate the rig in accordance with DOT regulations and customer requirements, including operating the power swivel, pulling and laying down rods, tubing, casing, and other equipment. Accurate torque calculations and specifications, pipe tallying, rigging up and down, nipple up and down BOP units, and pipe handling are essential. The position requires performing required equipment inspections, checking brake systems, and performing BOP inspections, testing, and installation. Daily equipment inspection and maintenance, troubleshooting maintenance issues, and recognizing worn equipment are also key responsibilities. The operator must ensure efficient maintenance of the rig and crew truck, instruct crew members on equipment and safety, and maintain a clean and orderly worksite. Understanding job steps, correctly arranging rods and tubing in the derrick, and comprehending the rig's hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems are necessary. Maintaining communication with the Customer and Rig Supervisor, ensuring productivity standards, and adhering to government regulations are crucial. The role also includes timely completion of field tickets, entering crew hours, and assisting in shop or NDES Yard maintenance and rig preparation when needed. Training new crew members, attending safety meetings, and complying with all company, customer, and health/safety policies are also part of the job. The operator must be able to work in all weather conditions and perform other duties as directed by management.

Must be able to communicate using oral and basic written communication.
Must pass a Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol screening and participate in the random testing pool.
Must pass a background check and motor vehicle record check.
Arrange for reliable transportation to and from work.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

Class A or B CDL preferred.
Previous workover experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Operate a workover rig and supervise a crew.

Ensure all crew members are at work on time and properly prepared.
Drive crew truck.
Operate the rig safely in accordance with DOT regulations and customer requirements.
Operate power swivel.
Pull and lay down rods, tubing, casing and other equipment as needed.
Accurately perform torque calculations and specs.
Perform pipe tallying, rigging up and down, nipple up and down BOP units and pipe handling.
Perform all required equipment inspections on workover rig, fall arrest systems, derrick and mud pumps.
Perform check on brake systems and confirm functionality.
Perform BOP inspection, testing and installation as needed.
Perform daily inspection and maintenance of equipment.
Troubleshoot maintenance issues; perform worn equipment recognition checks, and submit maintenance requests for repair or replacement of equipment.
Ensure efficient maintenance of assigned rig and crew truck.
Instruct floorhands and derrickhands in the use of all rig and pumping equipment, and safety equipment.
Keep work site, equipment, and tools clean and in good working order.
Understand job steps and arrange rods and tubing in derrick correctly.
Understand the rig's hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
Maintain contact and communication with Customer and Rig Supervisor.
Maintain productivity standards for all rig employees and adhere to all applicable government regulations for compliance.
Complete and turn in field tickets in a timely manner and enter crew's hours into time tracking system.
Work in the shop or assist in NDES Yard maintenance when necessary.
Assist in repairs and preparing workover rig for deployment when necessary.
Responsible for training new crew members, specifically Floorhand-SSE's.
Attend and participate in daily and monthly safety meetings.
Understand and comply with company, customer, and health/safety policies, and any other required regulations.
Report any and all incidents immediately to Rig Supervisor.
Work in all weather conditions.
Perform other duties as directed by management.
