A Workover Rig Derrickhand is responsible for all activities conducted from an elevated position in the rod basket or tubing board. This role involves working with a three to five person crew performing maintenance and repairs on oil and gas wells. The derrickhand works in the derrick on the tubing board and rod basket when tripping pipe, verifying the derrick is properly scoped out, anchored, and devices are properly deployed. They assist the operator in rigging up and down, lining up the well service rig with the well, and are responsible for all elevated work associated with rigging down. This position also involves pulling and laying down rods, tubing, and casing, operating pump, tongs, elevators, and other rig tools and equipment, and maintaining and inspecting climbing devices and fall prevention equipment. Additionally, the derrickhand may drive the crew truck, work the floor or operate the rig, work in the shop or assist in NDES Yard maintenance, assist in repairs and preparing the workover rig for deployment, and assist in training new crew members. The role requires attendance and participation in daily and monthly safety meetings, understanding and compliance with company, customer, and health/safety policies, and immediate reporting of any incidents. The ability to work in all weather conditions and perform other duties as directed by management is essential.
