About The Position

This position supports the Workforce Development Program by assisting with research, program coordination, and strategic initiatives that strengthen the public health workforce. The employee will contribute to efforts related to workforce forecasting, employee engagement, and retention while gaining practical experience in public health workforce development. The role will also support updates to the agency Workforce Development Plan by researching best practices, analyzing workforce trends, and assisting with the development of materials that promote workforce growth, learning, and organizational improvement.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and relevant program experience.
  • Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications, subject to approval by the SCDPH Chief Human Resources Officer, or their delegate.

Nice To Haves

  • Enrollment in a graduate program is preferred, but not required.
  • Preferred programs are Public Health, Health Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or related fields such as Business Administration, Communications, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or Data Analytics.
  • Strong interest in public health workforce development, organizational improvement, and workforce planning.
  • Experience with research, review studies, or data analysis through academic coursework or professional experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on public health workforce trends, best practices, and emerging issues related to recruitment, retention, employee engagement, and workforce well-being.
  • Assist with reviewing and summarizing findings from workforce-related data sources (e.g., workforce surveys, national public health workforce reports, and organizational data).
  • Prepare written summaries, briefing materials, and presentations to support workforce development planning and leadership discussions.
  • Assist with research, documentation, and content development for updates to the agency Workforce Development Plan.
  • Identify promising practices and innovative approaches to workforce development within public health organizations.
  • Support tracking and documentation of workforce development initiatives, goals, and progress.
  • Provide administrative and coordination support for workforce development initiatives, meetings, and projects.
  • Assist with preparing materials, maintaining documentation, and supporting communication related to workforce programs and activities.
  • Support coordination of workforce development trainings, learning opportunities, or internal engagement initiatives.
  • Assist with projects related to employee engagement, professional development, and workforce improvement efforts.
  • Contribute research and ideas to support strategies that strengthen workforce recruitment, retention, and development.
  • Other duties as assigned related to the position.
