About The Position

MRC Industries is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic LEAP Workforce Development Coach to support individuals with disabilities in building independence, developing meaningful skills, and participating fully in their communities. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about empowering others, promoting personal growth, and creating opportunities for individuals to achieve their goals through skill development, community engagement, and meaningful activities. As a LEAP Coach, you will provide direct support, instruction, and coaching to individuals as they develop vocational, social, and daily living skills while participating in community-based and facility-based activities. This position focuses on helping individuals develop vocational readiness, daily living skills, social skills, and greater independence through individualized supports, community-based experiences, and engaging activities.

Requirements

  • Problem solving skills and judgment sufficient to recognize and initiate appropriate response to emergency and non-emergency situations independently.
  • Written communication skills sufficient to write on team member goals and objectives.
  • Sufficient reading skills to read consumer schedules and goals.
  • Human relation skills sufficient to interact effectively with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Criminal records, driving and recipient rights screening required.
  • Valid Michigan driver's license, good driving record and the availability of licensed, insured vehicle for use on the job required.
  • Appropriate licensure and insurability to drive transit vans for transporting clients.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience or exposure coordinating activities in a group setting required.
  • Ability to squat, reach, lift, push, pull, bend, stoop and knee.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Physical ability to provide assistance to clients served with lifting and transferring, personal care, and physical intervention when necessary.
  • Exerting up to 15 pounds frequently and 25 pounds of force occasionally. May occasionally require lifting up to 35 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Lived experiences with behavioral health are desired.
  • Experience in tending to the personal care needs of individuals preferred.
  • Education and/or experience working with individuals (clients) with disabilities and/or mental illness preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized support with activities of daily living (ADLs), including making grocery lists, meal preparation, and safely cutting or modifying foods as needed.
  • Assist with medication management in accordance with agency policies and individual support plans.
  • Support seniors and individuals with varying abilities by promoting independence, dignity, and person-centered care.
  • Facilitate community outings and recreational activities that encourage social interaction, relationship building, and meaningful community inclusion.
  • Lead the Healthy Matters wellness program, promoting healthy lifestyles through nutrition education, physical activity, and wellness-focused activities.
  • Utilize the MultiBall interactive wall to provide engaging cognitive and physical activities that enhance coordination, mobility, mental stimulation, and overall well-being.
  • Encourage participants to build daily living, communication, and social skills while fostering self-confidence, emotional regulation skills and independence.
  • Create a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment where every individual is valued and empowered to achieve their personal goals.
  • Collaborate with team members, families, and community partners to ensure high-quality, person-centered services.
  • Provides skill-building opportunities through instruction-based curriculum in a classroom setting.
  • Community-based volunteer opportunities that ensure skill-building clients access and develop relationships within the community.
  • Provides supervision, training and the oversight of clients' objectives, behavior plans, and interventions.
  • Follows procedures for ensuring safety in the community.
  • Provides transportation to clients during hours of operation.
  • Support will be provided regarding personal care as needed.
  • Assist with developing, implementing, and documenting client service plan goals, objectives, interventions, and behavior plans.
  • Assist with developing and implementing skill building and community-based activities.
  • Ensure skill building opportunities that promote community inclusion, independence and productivity.
  • Provide coverage as requested with morning attendance, lunch time, bus monitoring, and restroom assistance.
  • Intervene with clients displaying inappropriate behaviors and when required use approved physical intervention techniques.
  • Assume responsibility for the health and safety of individuals served. Follow procedures to ensure safety within MRC facilities and the community.
  • Provide transportation to clients during operational hours as required.
  • Follow established procedures for filling out daily billable sheets and maintain accurate records of hours and production for each team member assigned.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with clients and staff in the provision of services.
  • Attend regular and special staff meetings upon request.
  • Complete incident and accident reports in a timely fashion and in accordance with agency policy.
  • Assure the rights of clients served are protected in accordance with Michigan Mental Health code and agency policy.
  • Actively support and be knowledgeable about 1) culturally competent, recovery-based practices, 2) person-centered planning as a shared decision-making process with the individual who defines his or her own life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals and 3) a trauma informed culture to aid clients in their recovery process.
  • Assess team member strengths and barriers and communicate these to program coordinators.
  • If assigned to medication administration, administer medications in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Completes other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
