Workers Compensation Specialist
About The Position
The Workers Compensation Specialist works at Cracker Barrel’s Store Support Center, supporting employees and teams by managing workers compensation claims. The role investigates and evaluates claim information, including physician reports, job restrictions, job descriptions, state law, and legal opinions, to make return-to-work decisions and accommodate injured employees with temporary physical limitations. It reviews settlement recommendations, collaborates with third-party administrators, adjusters, and defense attorneys, and provides settlement authority up to pre-approved amounts. The specialist also guides injured employees through the claims process, approves the use of claim-related vendors, and completes required OSHA and state workers compensation requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 1–2 years of experience in risk management, insurance claims, or a similar customer service position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities
- Investigate and evaluate physician reports, job restrictions, job descriptions, state law, and legal opinions to make return-to-work decisions and accommodate injured employees with temporary physical limitations.
- Review settlement recommendations from the third-party administrator, collaborate with adjusters and defense attorneys, and provide settlement authority up to pre-approved amounts.
- Review open workers compensation claims and direct third-party administrator employees to support fair and efficient claim resolution.
- Guide injured employees through the claims process and answer questions.
- Approve vendors, including defense attorneys, nurse case managers, surveillance companies, and ancillary medical services.
- Complete required OSHA and other state workers compensation requirements.
