About The Position

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Workers Compensation, is recruiting for a Workers Compensation Officer 2 located in Fairbanks. This position serves as the onsite supervisor for the Fairbanks adjudications office, offering a combination of adjudication, case management, and leadership. The role involves independently managing complex workers’ compensation matters, supervising staff, and contributing to the delivery of adjudication support services in Fairbanks. As a designee of the Alaska Workers’ Compensation Board, the incumbent will conduct prehearing conferences, resolve procedural and discovery disputes, and facilitate the resolution of contested workers’ compensation cases. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys complex work, independent decision-making, and helping both people and teams communicate and succeed.

Requirements

  • Interpreting and applying workers' compensation statutes, regulatory procedures, court decisions, and treatises relating to industrial injury or disease.
  • Principles and practices of investigation.
  • Techniques and methods of conducting impartial hearings and securing voluntary compliance.
  • Professional experience in administrative or regulatory law.
  • Adjusting or reviewing workers' compensation claims or claim determinations.
  • Coordinating vocational rehabilitation services for injured workers.
  • Possess some or all of the following position specific competencies: Supervision, Conflict Management, Written Communication.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to use the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). Applicants with felony or misdemeanor convictions or who may be a fugitive from justice will be denied clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Write in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
  • Conduct independent case analysis.

  • Supervise employees in Fairbanks and Juneau.
  • Review case activity.
