About The Position

Primoris T&D provides construction, maintenance, and engineering of electric Transmission, Distribution, and Substation infrastructure. Ancillary services include wireless telecommunication installation, environmental cleanup, project management, and storm restoration services. The Work Methods Specialist is an experienced electric utility professional with in-depth knowledge of electric utility construction and maintenance work practices, as well as extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations governing the work performed by electric utility workers. This role requires strong written and verbal communication skills to document work methods and standards that provide clear direction for field craft. The Specialist is a proven leader capable of managing multiple teams to draft, review, obtain approval of, and communicate work methods. Collaboration across multiple departments including operations, safety, quality, and purchasing is essential. The Specialist must maintain accurate records and logs of progress and track revisions to existing work methods. Close work with Safety and Training Directors is required to ensure consistency with the PSC safety manual and training documents.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 20 years’ experience in the electric utility industry.
  • Experience in Electric Distribution, Overhead and/or Underground, Directional boring, Transmission or Substation.
  • OSHA 20 and/or OSHA 30 as well as other OSHA endorsements.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry approved T&D work methods and practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and respond to changing priorities.
  • Ability to set up meeting rooms, audio-visual equipment, and other training aids.
  • Knowledge of OSHA & NESC.
  • Ability to create presentations and speak to groups of people.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Ability to use basic office equipment (computer, phone, fax, copier, etc.).
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including email and public speaking settings.
  • Works primarily remote or in an office setting but may be required on occasion to visit crews outdoors.
  • Ability to bend or squat as needed.
  • Operates office equipment such as a computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.
  • Wears company issued FR clothing and additional PPE required for the scope of work when required.
  • Occasional travel for meetings may be required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be allowed access to customer / client property.

Responsibilities

  • Draft work methods documents.
  • Collaborate with safety and training to ensure the work methods are consistent with safety and training requirements.
  • Lead small teams that assist in the drafting of work methods documents.
  • Obtain input from safety, training, and operations to prioritize which work method(s) need to be developed for the organization.
  • Communicate completed work methods drafts for executive review and approval.
  • Coordinate the communication of approved work methods to the field craft and leadership team.
  • Be present at safety meetings to provide insights into the rationale behind the work methods.
  • Participates as a member of various advisory teams as requested.
  • Supports emergency preparedness and response plans, including storm or outage related events.
  • Aids in the research and selection of safety products, PPE, and tooling.
  • Complete all PSC Learn, Leadership, Safety, and related company required training courses.
  • Assist in the update and development of the safety handbook and safe work practices procedures.
  • Travel for conferences, training, and meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties and activities as directed.
