About The Position

Jet Midwest is seeking a motivated, high-energy Wood Shop Technician (Carpenter) to join our Materials Operations team. This full-time position is located at the Kansas City International Airport Area, in the former TWA Overhaul Base facility. The Wood Shop Technician works as an in-house carpenter responsible for preparing custom crating and storage solutions for aircraft parts. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail, proficiency with basic hand and power tools, and a solid understanding of basic construction techniques. Success in this role requires a service-oriented mindset, a commitment to maintaining a clean shop environment, and efficient material usage.

  • Using power saws, nail guns, staplers and other tools needed to prop wood material used to assemble crates
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Carpentry or experience with wood products
  • Regular interaction and coordination with team members at all levels of our supply chain
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic math and measurement skills
  • Standard framing techniques
  • Crating and storage building techniques
  • General carpentry and construction
  • 2-3 years of direct, hands-on experience with the type of work described above, which may have been gained in a similar work environment, job site, or classroom setting
  • 2-5+ years of work experience within a general carpentry shop or construction environment

Responsibilities

  • Scope, design, layout, prepare, and complete shop projects, primarily but not limited to customized crating and storage solutions for aircraft parts by appropriately using hand and power tools as well as fixing materials such as nails, screws, staples, adhesives, and bands
  • Read and act on drawings and schematics
  • Estimate height, width, length, volume, and other project requirements utilizing basic math and measurement skills
  • Utilize appropriate materials and tooling to complete daily work processes
  • Safely operate equipment, use safe and appropriate material movement techniques, and contribute to the safety and health of the team through stellar housekeeping of the woodshop area
  • Ensure unused materials are stored or disposed of as appropriate
  • Assist shipping department with material movement throughout the facility
  • Inspect and reclaim previously used materials to assist with cost control of projects
  • Building “stock” crates to ensure rapid flow of work through the shop
  • Become forklift certified
  • Performs other job duties as assigned
