About The Position

D. G. Granade, Inc. is looking to hire two experienced carpenters to work out of our Shingle Springs shop fabricating wood deck assemblies for a current construction project. This is not an entry-level carpenter or construction laborer position. We are looking for experienced carpenters who know their trade and can take a set of plans, lay out the work, make accurate cuts, and build complete assemblies correctly with minimal supervision. This is a non-union, shop-based position paid in line with skill and effort. This is not a prevailing-wage position. The primary scope will be fabrication of wood-framed deck assemblies in our shop for delivery and installation at the project site.

Requirements

  • Several years of hands-on carpentry experience.
  • Comfortable working independently from plans and dimensions.
  • Ability to read a tape accurately.
  • Ability to read and work from construction drawings.
  • Ability to perform framing and stair layout.
  • Ability to make accurate, repeatable cuts.
  • Ability to check own dimensions and layout before assembling.
  • Ability to build square and consistently produce quality work.
  • Ability to recognize when something doesn't look right and address it before proceeding.
  • Ability to work productively without requiring constant direction.
  • Ability to safely operate common carpentry tools and equipment.
  • Commercial construction and framing experience is strongly preferred.
  • Understand layout, framing, and proper construction practices.
  • Take pride in the finished product.

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand construction plans and details.
  • Independently lay out deck framing and components.
  • Lay out and cut stair stringers where required.
  • Accurately cut and assemble dimensional lumber.
  • Build framing square, level, and to the dimensions shown.
  • Install decking and associated components.
  • Identify and work through typical carpentry layout and fabrication issues.
  • Safely and proficiently operate saws, drills, impact drivers, and other carpentry tools.
  • Maintain consistent quality while working efficiently.
  • Coordinate with our superintendent and other DGG personnel.
