Violence Against Women’s Services Women’s Shelter Program Coordinator (Canada Summer Jobs Position) 8 Week Contract- 35 Hours Per Week 1 Position Wage: $22.60 Per Hour Posting No. MS0644

Requirements

  • is between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • has a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulation
  • The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
  • International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule of days, evenings and weekends, depending on program needs

Responsibilities

  • Answer and direct telephone calls, including responding to the crisis lines if necessary
  • Assist with telephone assessments, safety planning and risk management
  • Assist with formal and informal resident engagement opportunities, including group facilitation and recreational activities
  • Monitor security of the house and residents entering and leaving the shelter
  • Assess the inventory of the house and resident-related items, and replenish stock as needed
  • Assist employees in the daily maintenance of the program; this may include, but is not limited to, such things as cleaning within the house, completing room turnover, and identifying maintenance and security needs
  • Offer support to the Child and Youth program, as needed
  • Provide front desk support to residents
  • Adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality
  • Ensure Mission Service’s workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed at all times
  • Other duties as required to ensure the continuation of service to participants in the space
