About The Position

The Women Shelter Attendant will provide direct support and assistance to residents of the shelter, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. This role requires compassion, patience, and the ability to work collaboratively with both residents and shelter staff.

Requirements

  • Experience in social services, crisis intervention, or similar roles, especially within a women’s shelter or support environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues surrounding domestic violence, homelessness, and women's health.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Checks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to show empathy and establish rapport with diverse populations.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and communication purposes.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Physically able to complete daily tasks such as cleaning, lifting objects when needed and any activities that may take place.
  • Class 5 drivers license and drivers abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with daily needs, including personal safety, emotional support, and resources for empowerment.
  • Help maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe living environment.
  • Facilitate access to health and community resources.
  • Respond to resident inquiries and potential crises with sensitivity and urgency.
  • Utilize conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts among residents.
  • Maintain a calm and supportive presence, especially during high-stress situations.
  • Monitor shelter premises to ensure security and compliance with shelter policies.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and assist in emergency procedures as needed.
  • Upkeep cleanliness of shelter facility.
  • Maintain accurate records of resident interactions and incidents, reporting any concerns to the Shelter Manager.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and updates as requested by management.
