About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Director, Women’s Resource Center (Center), the Coordinator is responsible for helping to coordinate programs and carry out general student services, and may be responsible for elements of fiscal operations for the Women’s Resource Center and will support the programming and activities. In conjunction with the Director, the Coordinator will create and implement programs and services related to student learning and development that align with the mission of Student Affairs; assist in the recruitment, development, enrichment, inclusion, retention, and student experiences of a diverse Sacramento State student population; serve as a liaison to various offices and programs across campus and to external and community partners; seek and draft grants for external funding and engage in other fundraising efforts; provide lead work direction to represented staff; and recruit, hire, and provide lead direction to student staff and interns as needed. The Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships within Sacramento State and the larger community to create and administer programs and services that support the retention and success of, and improve the campus climate for women, BIPOC, first-generation, and other diverse populations. This position will also represent the Center and its affiliated Programs on appropriate committees as needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide lead direction to student assistants and volunteers.
  • Ability to work independently and possess self-direction skills to be able to initiate plans, organize, prioritize, multi-task, and coordinate work in a fast-paced organization.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to compose, draft, and edit correspondence, reports, notices, and announcements.
  • Ability to compile, prepare, write, and review reports.
  • Ability to advise students on sensitive issues.
  • Ability to train others on new skills and procedures.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.
  • Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

Nice To Haves

  • One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
  • A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
  • At least two years of experience working with student services, student group advising, and/or supporting diversity programs in a university environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and the community regarding event planning, record keeping, facility use, maintenance needs, and evolving program needs.
  • Knowledge of General Education requirements in the California State University system.
  • Familiarity with grant writing and fundraising processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
  • Familiarity with social justice, intersectionality, and related principles.
