About The Position

The Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) will provide comprehensive healthcare services focused on women's reproductive health within the Mescalero Service Unit, operated by the Indian Health Service. This role is crucial in delivering care to the Mescalero Apache Tribe or another Native American community, complementing existing services such as primary care, dental care, behavioral health, and chronic disease management. The WHNP will be instrumental in offering specialized care related to prenatal health, gynecological exams, and the diagnosis and treatment of reproductive health issues, contributing to the overall well-being of women in the community.

Requirements

  • Must maintain an active, full, and unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in this state or any other state of the United States of America.
  • Must provide and maintain active Nurse Practitioner certification or Women's Health Specialty certification.
  • Shall hold and maintain BLS and ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prenatal care to pregnant women.
  • Conduct gynecological exams and pap smears.
  • Diagnose and treat reproductive health issues.
  • Perform screenings for sexually transmitted infections.
  • Provide and manage contraception and family planning.
  • Educate patients on health maintenance and disease prevention.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies.
  • Offer menopausal care and hormone replacement therapy.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to provide comprehensive care.
  • Perform minor medical procedures like IUD placements and removals.
  • Work with appropriate staff, other agencies, and accepting facilities to medically stabilize and coordinate appropriate urgent and emergent transfers to facilities with a higher level of care, when necessary.
