The Nurse Practitioner (NP), under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. At the Fresno County Jail the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner will care for adult female patients in a correctional jail setting, including individuals with routine gynecologic needs, acute women’s health concerns, pregnancy-related needs, STI screening and treatment, contraception counseling, and chronic medical conditions that impact reproductive health. Many patients may have had limited access to consistent healthcare prior to incarceration and may present with complex medical, behavioral health, substance use, trauma, or social needs. The role requires compassionate, trauma-informed care and the ability to manage both scheduled and urgent women’s health concerns within a secure correctional environment.
