About The Position

Athena OB/GYN, an Axia Women’s Health care center, is seeking a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) to work Monday-Friday. This role provides comprehensive, specialized care to women across the lifespan, focusing on reproductive health, gynecological issues, family planning, and wellness promotion. The Nurse Practitioner practices under established standards and legal requirements, conducting age-appropriate assessments including history taking and physical examinations. They perform routine physical examinations, including pelvic and breast exams, PAP tests, and infection screenings. Specific procedures include IUD and Nexplanon insertions/removals, Endometrial Biopsies, and working with Pessaries. Colposcopies may also be performed. The role involves educating patients on women's health issues, preventative care, and contraceptive methods. Diagnostic tests are ordered, and medications are prescribed within the scope of practice. The Nurse Practitioner provides expert care for women during the menopausal transition, managing symptoms and educating on treatment options. They also manage prenatal, perinatal, and postpartum visits, screening for complications and evaluating postpartum well-being. Collaboration with physicians and other clinicians is essential for ensuring a smooth flow of patient care and coordinating care consistent with quality indicators. The role requires systematic assessment of physiological, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, along with patient/family education and advocacy. Consultation with supervising physicians or other clinicians is performed as needed. The Nurse Practitioner reviews medical records for follow-up and orders diagnostic studies under established protocols. Effective working relationships with the healthcare team, patients, and families are crucial. Safety principles are applied, and efficient performance in emergency situations following established protocols is expected. Knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management, is demonstrated. A service philosophy is expected in all interactions, and proficiency in using computers and telecommunication modalities for documentation and information exchange is required. Requirements

  • Strong understanding of healthcare principles, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations, make sound clinical judgments, and adapt treatment plans as necessary.
  • Effective communication with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. Ability to explain diagnoses, treatment options, and procedures clearly and empathetically.
  • Strong computer proficiency and understanding and knowledge of EHR and healthcare technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team.
  • Willingness to pursue continuing education and stay updated on advances in Women’s Health.
  • Must be able to work at each practice location as scheduled.
  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MS, MSN, or DNP); with focus on Women’s Health highly preferred.
  • Board certification in WHNP, FNP, ANP, or similar.
  • Current unrestricted Pennsylvania Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner license, Prescriptive Authority, and DEA.
  • 2 + years’ Women’s Health advanced practice clinician experience.
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Practices under the standard procedure established for the Nurse Practitioner role consistent with company policy and in accordance with all legal requirements.
  • Conducts age-appropriate assessments of patients, including history taking and physical examination consistent with department protocol.
  • Performs routine physical examinations within scope of practice, including pelvic examinations, breast examinations, PAP tests, and any relevant infection screenings. Performs IUD and Nexplanon insertions/removals, Endometrial Biopsies, works with Pessaries - education & maintenance; may perform Colposcopies.
  • Provides education on women’s issues, preventative care, contraceptive methods, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Orders diagnostic tests and prescribes medications within scope of practice.
  • Provides expert, compassionate care for women during the menopausal transition (perimenopause, Menopause, postmenopausal) by managing symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep issues, educating patients on treatment options (hormonal/non-hormonal), offering lifestyle advice (diet, exercise, supplements), and supporting overall well-being with evidence-based care.
  • Manages prenatal, perinatal, and postpartum visits, screening for pregnancy complications and evaluating physical and mental wellbeing after birth.
  • Confers with patients in person and by phone/electronically, collaborates with others in the department to ensure a smooth flow of patient care consistent with established quality indicators and participates in the overall coordination of patient care.
  • Performs assessment/data collection in an on-going systematic manner, focusing on physiological, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual and cognitive status, patient/family education, family involvement, and patient advocacy.
  • Consults with supervising physicians or other clinicians as dictated by patient need and assessment findings.
  • Participates with physicians and other clinicians in the department to ensure effective patient care consistent with quality indicators for patients cared for in the designated service.
  • Reviews medical record for follow up or ordering of diagnostic studies under established protocols.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with members of the health care team, patients, and families.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and applies safety principles as identified by the practice.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate people, and documenting events.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning.
  • Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and all members of the health care team.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities to document, track and convey information.
