About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting and providing direct gynecologic and obstetric services to non-pregnant and low/high risk pregnant women and their families during the preconception, childbearing and postmenopausal process in an outpatient office.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved nurse midwifery, nurse practitioner or physician assistant program
  • 3 years experience providing direct patient care in OB/GYN specialty as a CNM, WHNP or PA
  • BLS (CPR) | AHA Health Care Provider BLS
  • Licensure: Must maintain either valid TX RN and Nurse Midwife or NP license OR TX PA license
  • Certification: Must be Board Certified within 1 year of date of hire by either the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) for PA's OR the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the National Certification Corporation (NCC) for NP's OR the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
  • Maintain licensure/certification/registry/listing
  • Annual mandatory requirements (e.g., flu shot, education, employee health)
  • Participates in training required by the funding source and/or required by licensing board.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full scope care to women throughout their reproductive lifespan (if applicable).
  • Provides individualized, family centered care to low and high risk pregnant women and their families throughout the childbearing process within the outpatient setting.
  • Provide collaborative care for patients whose medical or obstetrical status dictates direct physician involvement in the care and treatment of the patient
  • Assess, diagnose and treat all female patients who have reached menarche, in collaboration with the primary or back up supervising physician
  • Maintains current and develops future theoretical and technical competencies regarding OB/GYN, primary care, emergency medicine, family planning.
  • Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients.
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
  • Performs a complete physical exam and records findings. Collaborates with providers in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Synthesizes data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
  • Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Instructs patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care between visits.
  • Have a working knowledge of ICD9, CPT and HCPCS coding and managed care, and be available for training as necessary.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees/pilot projects as requested.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Follows the guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
