Wireless Module Engineer

Apple•Austin, TX

About The Position

The Wireless Module Engineer is a self-driven technical lead responsible for developing wireless modules from early architecture definition through mass-production ramp. The role spans RF design, packaging, product engineering and yield analysis, ATE, and reliability engineering, and supports multiple product lines within Apple’s Hardware Technology organization. The engineer leads early RF architecture and specification discussions with internal teams and Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly & Test (OSAT) partners, ensures OSAT compliance with internal specifications and review workflows, and drives formal module design release checkpoints. These checkpoints cover schematics, PCB layout, electromagnetic and RF simulation results, design for manufacturability, test-data readiness, and OSAT design feedback. The role manages module integration and OSAT ATE test coverage and maturity, including test hardware, software, firmware, module calibrations, GRR, and CPK/data analysis. The engineer coordinates validation and approval of ATE integration, test coverage, and limits to deliver tested modules for product NPI builds. After NPI builds, the engineer leads failure analysis with OSATs and improvement activities to enhance testers, optimize test time, and improve yield and retest rates. The engineer serves as the primary technical liaison between Apple’s cross-functional engineering, product, quality, supply, and design teams and OSAT technical teams. Responsibilities also include translating product field-usage profiles into data-driven reliability test models, communicating component risks to executives, and aligning OSAT schedules and mitigation plans with project needs. International travel to OSATs for module and ATE bring-up is expected for one to two weeks before product NPI builds. The role requires broad technical depth to troubleshoot bring-up issues, including I2C and PCIe interface issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • At least 2 years of wireless module development experience from early concept to mass production for consumer electronic devices.
  • Strong RF fundamentals and RF design background.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including yield analysis (Cpk) and retest-rate analysis for data-sheet closures.
  • Ability to work at both high-level theory and detailed hands-on execution.
  • Experience managing vendor teams and leading cross-time-zone meetings.
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to drive meetings to key decisions on wireless technologies.
  • Ability to define engineering methods for custom wireless module and component development during prototyping.
  • Experience setting up project schedules and work breakdown structures and communicating prioritized risks.
  • Proficiency in reviewing mechanical/electrical designs for sockets, fixtures, and test systems.
  • Ability to travel internationally.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional experience in packaging, product engineering, ATE, and reliability engineering is highly desirable.
  • AI/ML experience with expertise in data analysis is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead wireless module development from early architecture definition through mass-production ramp.
  • Initiate and lead RF architecture and specification discussions between internal engineering teams and OSATs.
