2027 PhD Graduate – Wireless Communications Engineer – Wireless Cyber Capabilities
About The Position
The Wireless Cyber Capabilities team develops wireless communications expertise and advanced capabilities for research and operational prototypes supporting the U.S. military and intelligence communities. The team leverages software-defined radios, commercial cellular equipment, and machine learning to provide operational advantages by controlling the wireless communications environment. Its research areas include signals intelligence, wireless cyber access, and wireless cybersecurity. Engineers apply cutting-edge research to critical government challenges. In this role, you will work with wireless communications engineers and software developers to implement wireless communication technology solutions. You will encounter a variety of projects, explore technical focus areas, and help build the group’s research portfolio and apply that knowledge to solution design and implementation.
Requirements
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical degree.
- Knowledge of or skill in signals and systems or wireless communication concepts.
- Knowledge of or skill in software design patterns in a language such as Python, C++, C, VHDL/Verilog, or MATLAB.
- Ability to obtain Interim Top Secret security clearance by the start date and ultimately obtain Top Secret clearance.
- U.S. citizenship, as required for eligibility to access classified information.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of or skill in wireless communication protocols or systems such as Wi-Fi, 5G-NewRadio/NextG, or SATCOM.
- Knowledge of or skill in digital signal processing, including Fourier analysis and filtering.
- Knowledge of or skill in software-defined radio frameworks such as GNU Radio.
- Knowledge of or skill in machine learning, including frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.

- Collaborate with wireless communications engineers and software developers to implement wireless communication technology solutions.
- Help build the group’s research portfolio and apply that knowledge to design and implement solutions.
- Contribute to research and operational prototypes that leverage wireless communications expertise, software-defined radios, and machine learning.
