About The Position

The Boeing Company, Commercial Airplanes (BCA), Seat Wire Integration (SWI) Electrical Design organization is seeking a Wiring Design and Installation Engineer to join their team in North Charleston, SC. This role will contribute to defining the future of commercial aerospace through innovative ideas that advance the company's culture of safety and quality. The engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining electrical product detail, assembly, and installation designs, with a primary focus on critical electrical cable/wire harness installation, detail, and assembly designs. This includes defining the physical routing of wires throughout the aircraft, considering factors such as wire supports, brackets, separation for safety, parts selection, and environmental impacts, all while prioritizing safety and quality. The role also involves developing and analyzing engineering design dispositions for discrepancies, collaborating with factory partners for efficient and safe production, and improving documented processes and specifications. Additionally, the engineer will develop statements of work, participate in technical reviews of supplier capabilities, analyze functional and physical requirements for integrated designs, and support technical reviews. This position operates under the general supervision of a lead engineer and mentor to foster technical and career growth, with a specific focus on 787 seats and interiors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • 5+ years of experience with wire harness, electrical and/or mechanical design.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Aviation/Aerospace interiors.
  • 3+ years of experience in Computer aided design (CAD) tools.
  • Knowledge of CATIA V5.
  • Experience working in a cross functional team environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and maintaining electrical product detail, assembly and installation designs (e.g., cable routing and geometry, brackets) for commercial aircraft.
  • Developing and maintaining critical electrical cable/wire harness installation, detail and assembly designs.
  • Defining the physical routing layout of wire routing throughout the airplane, considering requirements such as wire supports and brackets, separation for physical and functional safety, proper parts selection, and environmental impacts.
  • Ensuring Safety and Quality are the number 1 priority.
  • Developing and analyzing engineering design disposition on discrepancies (e.g., rejection tags, production action requests and shop revision requests).
  • Working closely and collaborating with partners on the factory floor to ensure designs can be built efficiently and safely.
  • Following and looking for improvements to documented processes, specifications and procedures that support safe and quality design and manufacture of electrical commodities.
  • Developing basic statements of work.
  • Participating in technical reviews of supplier capabilities to facilitate source selection.
  • Analyzing functional and physical requirements to assure the development of integrated designs and system architecture.
  • Actively supporting critical analysis and design reviews.
  • Working with and under general supervision of a lead engineer and an experienced mentor to enhance both technical learning and career growth.
