About The Position

The City of Hanford is seeking to fill sixteen (16) seasonal vacancies for Winter Wonderland Entertainer I/II/III (DOQ) to work at Winter Wonderland. Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager, the Winter Wonderland Entertainer performs as a costumed character (mascot) and participates in holiday-themed activities and performances during seasonal events. Incumbents may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliability, professionalism, and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to perform as a costumed holiday character during events.
  • Some high school education.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in performing arts, theater, or dance.
  • Experience working with children or at community events.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are desirable.
  • WINTER WONDERLAND ENTERTAINER II: Some experience in theater, dance, performance, recreation programs, or community events is desirable.
  • WINTER WONDERLAND ENTERTAINER III: Prior experience in live performance, choreography, event entertainment, or leadership roles preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic mascot/character duties.
  • Focus on guest interaction and photo opportunities.
  • Works under close supervision while learning event procedures and character performance expectations.
  • Perform assigned roles with moderate independence and participate in scripted performances and rehearsals.
  • Demonstrate ability to follow choreography, cues, and staging direction.
  • May assist in mentoring Winter Wonderland Entertainer I staff.
  • Perform with moderate independence while coordinating with assigned handlers or event staff.
  • Perform in lead roles in shows or featured characters.
  • Assist staff with coordinating rehearsals, staging, and performance flow.
  • Provide lead direction and support to lower-level entertainers during performances and event operations.
  • Serve as a liaison between performers and the event supervisors.
  • Assist with creating scripts, music, and choreography for staged performances.
  • May assist with troubleshooting performance or guest interaction issues.
  • Engage guests through gestures, body language, and character interaction.
  • Interact with guests and pose for photos at public events, providing a welcoming, festive experience.
  • Always maintain character integrity and professionalism.
  • Work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, performers, and the public.
  • Follow choreography, cues, and performance direction.
  • Communicate non-verbally while in costume.
  • Interact positively with children and large crowds.
  • Follow safety guidelines related to costume use and visibility.
