About The Position

Visium Resources is recruiting for a contract-hire Windows VDI Administrator position expected to be on-site in Greenville, South Carolina, for one year or longer. The role provides dedicated Windows desktop engineering expertise to support the Engineering Windows Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and complement the DT team. The administrator is the primary technical owner of the Windows VDI environment, responsible for platform administration, image and application delivery, user experience, performance, capacity, security, and compliance. The role supports migration and stabilization following the PowerVDI transition, improves desktop responsiveness and application reliability, and manages image lifecycle activities such as operating system patching, rollback, and application deployment. The position also supports user data migration, onboarding, access provisioning, and troubleshooting application compatibility issues, including engineering applications such as Matlab, Exceed, NX, and third-party simulation tools. The administrator works with the DT team on infrastructure changes involving AWS WorkSpaces or equivalent platforms, networking, and cloud capacity; DT manages the cloud and network layers. Access to U.S. export-controlled information is required, and any applicable final offer is contingent on obtaining U.S. Government authorization for such access.

Requirements

  • Experience with enterprise VDI platforms such as Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, VMware Horizon, AWS WorkSpaces, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with Windows image management, patching, and lifecycle tooling such as SCCM, Intune, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of user profile management, roaming profiles, and folder redirection in virtual environments.
  • Windows Virtual Desktop Infrastructure administration experience in an enterprise environment.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS WorkSpaces or cloud-based VDI administration experience.
  • Experience in a dual-protocol Windows and Linux mixed VDI environment.
  • Experience supporting engineering or scientific applications in a VDI environment.
  • Familiarity with software packaging, deployment automation, and Software Store/application delivery models.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical owner of the Windows Virtual Desktop environment and manage it at the image, session, and application-delivery levels.
  • Support ongoing migration and stabilization efforts following the PowerVDI transition.
  • Identify, track, and resolve VDI issues affecting engineering users, improving desktop responsiveness and application reliability.
  • Manage the Windows VDI base-image lifecycle, including operating-system patching and rollback, application deployment, and standardization aligned with the Software Store Standardization initiative.
  • Support and lead user data migration from legacy environments.
  • Manage onboarding workflows and access provisioning for new and migrating VDI users.
  • Resolve complex Windows VDI application compatibility issues, including engineering and scientific applications, and serve as the escalation point for desktop-tier issues affecting engineering productivity.
  • Monitor VDI session performance, resource consumption, and concurrency patterns.
  • Provide capacity data for provisioning decisions and cost benchmarking by engineer persona.
  • Support migration of Windows deployment processes toward more automated and standardized models aligned with broader CI/CD goals.
  • Ensure Windows VDI environments meet company cybersecurity standards and support vulnerability remediation coordinated by ADT security and compliance initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the DT team on underlying infrastructure changes, networking, and cloud capacity, providing Windows desktop expertise while DT manages cloud and network layers.
