About The Position

The Window Dispatcher is responsible for assigning work, vehicles, and onboard equipment to operators. This role involves maintaining check-out logs, assigning operators in the event of absences or increased service volumes to minimize disruptions, and maintaining accurate attendance logs. The dispatcher will communicate with operators, providing necessary information and assistance, and monitor operator and trip status, making adjustments as needed to ensure on-time performance. They will also assist operators during emergencies or vehicle malfunctions, liaise with operations, safety, and maintenance staff, and reschedule trips when necessary. Additionally, the dispatcher will reconcile trip manifests, assist passengers with service inquiries, document daily events, handle lost and found articles, and maintain a safe work area. Radio checks for all vehicles leaving the yard and establishing/maintaining headways for online buses are also key duties. This role includes maintaining logs for exceptions and incidents, assisting drivers with informational material, and reporting any driver issues to supervisors. Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor are also part of this role.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years radio and/or window dispatch experience in a fast paced environment
  • Must have valid driver license.
  • Ability to effectively decipher maps
  • Ability to handle stress, including emergency situations
  • Uses good judgment in making decisions in emergency and routine situations
  • Email and Internet; Microsoft Office Applications Suite
  • Excellent organization and multi-tasking skills
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communications and organizational skills
  • Good Judgement skills
  • Reasoning skills and Decision making

Responsibilities

  • Assign work, vehicles and onboard equipment to operators and maintain check-out logs
  • Assign operators in the event of operator absences, increased service volumes in order to minimize service disruptions as a result of traffic, vehicle malfunctions, operator problems and/or emergency situations.
  • Maintain accurate logs for attendance
  • Maintain communication with operators, providing information on customers, cancellations, and directional assistance where necessary
  • Monitor operators and trip status, making adjustments and reassignments as necessary to ensure on time performance
  • Provide assistance to operators in the event of emergency or vehicle malfunctions, communicating with operations, safety and maintenance staff where appropriate.
  • Reschedule trips as necessary in the event of vehicle malfunction, traffic, or emergency situations
  • Reconcile trip manifests by operators
  • Provide assistance to passengers in using the service as well as when inquiring about individual trip status.
  • Document accurately and appropriately daily events related to service
  • Collect any lost and found articles and catalog, attempt to contact appropriate passengers where possible
  • Maintain a safe work area and a focus on safety to reduce the opportunity for injury to self or other employees.
  • Radio checks all vehicles leaving the yard at all times
  • Establish and maintain headways for all online buses
  • Will maintain “exceptions” and “incidents” log
  • Will assist drivers with informational material as needed
  • Report to supervisors and duty managers any drivers failing to meet duties online
  • Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
