Windchill Java Developer
About The Position
Bright Vision Technologies is seeking an experienced Windchill Java Developer for a full-time, direct W2 position that is 100% remote in the United States. The role focuses on deep, low-level Windchill customizations using Java, PTC APIs, and PTC customization frameworks. The ideal candidate has strong Java fundamentals, deep knowledge of Windchill internals, and a disciplined, performance-aware approach to building upgrade-friendly customizations. The developer will work with product, design, engineering, operations, business stakeholders, and functional consultants to turn complex or ambiguous requirements into durable, well-engineered solutions. The role includes technical leadership through code and design reviews, mentorship, migration of legacy customizations to PTC-supported patterns, production support, and maintenance of comprehensive technical and operational documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Ten or more years of Java development experience, with a strong focus on Windchill customization.
- Deep, hands-on experience with the Windchill Java API and customization frameworks.
- Solid understanding of the Windchill data model, lifecycle, and workflow internals.
- Strong Java object-oriented design and performance-engineering skills.
- Experience with JSP, HTML, and Windchill client-side customization.
- Hands-on experience with Type and Attribute Management (TAM).
- Strong SQL skills and familiarity with Oracle or SQL Server.
- Experience supporting Windchill upgrades.
- Excellent troubleshooting and documentation skills.
Nice To Haves
- PTC Windchill development certifications.
- Experience with PTC ThingWorx development.
- Exposure to Windchill RV&S customization.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling for Windchill.
- Experience operating Windchill in the cloud.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop advanced Java customizations within Windchill, including custom services, listeners, processors, validators, and helpers.
- Extend the Windchill data model with custom types, attributes, and relationships using Type and Attribute Management (TAM).
- Build custom JSP and HTML extensions, including custom tables, actions, and wizard pages.
- Develop custom queues and background processes for asynchronous Windchill tasks.
- Implement complex workflow expressions and Java robot delegates.
- Optimize Java customization performance through profiling, query tuning, and caching strategies.
- Follow PTC customization best practices and maintain upgrade-friendly customizations.
- Lead migration efforts from legacy customizations to modern PTC-supported patterns, including phased cutovers, backward-compatibility shims, reversible migration steps, and monitoring.
- Conduct code reviews and uphold internal engineering standards.
- Collaborate with functional consultants to translate complex requirements into clean Java designs.
- Provide post-go-live and hypercare support, triage incidents, identify root causes, and implement durable fixes.
- Maintain current technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design decisions, configuration references, runbooks, and operational procedures.
- Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers through reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.
