About The Position

Deriva Energy, a portfolio company of Brookfield Renewable U.S., is a nationwide leader in sustainable energy, providing wind, solar, resilient backup power, and managed energy services to over 1,000 projects across the U.S. with a total electric capacity of more than 5,100 megawatts of nonregulated renewable energy. They are seeking a Traveling Wind Technician I to be based at their Mt Pleasant Wind location. This is a full-time, permanent position with significant room for advancement, serving as the entry-level and initial training level for the series. The hiring manager may elect to fill this position at the higher Wind Technician II Level depending on a candidate's skills and experience. Wind Technicians are responsible for maintaining all aspects of customer turbines, including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.

Requirements

High School/GED
For Wind Technician I: Ability to complete Level I job performance measures and training at the Deriva Energy renewables academy within 1 year.
For Wind Technician II (External Candidates): In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (3+) years of related work experience. Must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I JPMs within the probationary period.
For Wind Technician II (Internal Candidates): In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (1+) year of technical experience with Deriva Energy as a Wind Technician. Must also have Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator1 JPM Completed.
Valid Driver’s License required
Must pass a background check, drug test, and a preemployment physical prior to hire
Safe Working Weight Requirement- This position contains a weight restriction of 265 pounds as an essential function of the job.

Nice To Haves

AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study.
Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies
High voltage and substation maintenance experience
Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)
Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
Competent with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems
Microsoft Office Including Excel/Word/PowerPoint
CPR and AED Training Certification
TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training
Forklift certified

Responsibilities

Always maintain a high level of safety awareness
Climb heights 300 ft. and greater several times daily
Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems
Perform troubleshooting to identify the root cause of an issue and perform corrective actions or open a service case with equipment manufacturer
Perform energy isolation in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures
Perform pad mounted Transformer switching in accordance with all Hazardous Energy Controls Procedures
Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines
Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance monitoring and evaluation
Maintaining all aspects (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) of turbines in a safe, high quality, and efficient manner
Maintain EH&S Documentation and complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary) within Maximo
