About The Position

Deriva Energy, a portfolio company of Brookfield Renewable U.S., a nationwide leader in sustainable energy, is seeking a Traveling Wind Technician I, to be based in their Mt Pleasant Wind location. Wind Technicians are a vital part of the organization, and Deriva Energy takes pride in hiring and training the best in the industry. This is a full-time, permanent position with significant room for advancement. This is both the entry level and initial training level for the series. The hiring manager may elect to fill this position at the higher Wind Technician II Level dependent upon a candidate's skills and experience. The role involves maintaining all aspects of customers' turbines (e.g., electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc.). This is a site position at the Bad Axe Wind Farm located at 1000 S Van Dyke Rd, Bad Axe, MI 48413.

Requirements

High School/GED
Ability to complete Level I job performance measures and training Deriva Energy renewables academy within 1 year (for Wind Technician - Level I)
(3+) years of related work experience (for External Candidates - Wind Technician - Level II)
Must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I JPMs within the probationary period (for External Candidates - Wind Technician - Level II)
(1+) year of technical experience with Deriva Energy as a Wind Technician (for Internal Candidates - Wind Technician - Level II)
Must also have Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator1 JPM Completed (for Internal Candidates - Wind Technician - Level II)

Nice To Haves

AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study
Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies
High voltage and substation maintenance experience
Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)
Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
Competent with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems
Microsoft Office Including Excel/Word/PowerPoint
CPR and AED Training Certification
TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training
Forklift certified

Responsibilities

Always maintain a high level of safety awareness
Climb heights 300 ft. and greater several times daily
Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems
Perform troubleshooting to identify the root cause of an issue and perform corrective actions or open a service case with equipment manufacturer
Perform energy isolation in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures
Perform pad mounted Transformer switching in accordance with all Hazardous Energy Controls Procedures
Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines
Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance monitoring and evaluation
Maintaining all aspects (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) of turbines in a safe, high quality, and efficient manner
Maintain EH&S Documentation and complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary) within Maximo
