The William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fellowship is offered by the Aspen Institute Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation (PSI) to one student three times annually, in the fall, spring, or summer. Based on academic excellence and financial need, the fellowship is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at an institution of higher education for the semester of application. Summer applicants must show proof of enrollment for the upcoming fall semester. The fellow serves as an intern with PSI remotely or at the Aspen Institute’s Washington, DC office. Fellows may arrange to receive academic credit through their college or university. This is a working fellowship, not a fellowship intended to support independent research. The fellowship introduces students to issues and challenges affecting philanthropy, social enterprise, nonprofit organizations, and other social-sector actors. Fellows provide research, writing, logistical, and administrative support for PSI leadership initiatives, public programs, and convenings. Summer fellows work approximately 15–20 hours per week and are paid $18.50–$19.00 per hour. Candidates must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States.
