About The Position

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of wildlife technicians serving hunters, trappers, outdoor enthusiasts, and other diverse groups interested in the wildlife and lands of Interior and Eastern Arctic Alaska. As the frontline lead for the Fairbanks ADF&G Public Information Center, you will provide clear and accurate information about hunting and trapping regulations, issue permits and harvest tickets, sell licenses and tags, and collect and record harvest reports. The incumbent serves as the Region III Fur Sealing Officer and will regularly seal bears, furbearers, and sheep while collecting biological samples and verifying harvest information. You will support management and research biologists by assisting with harvest and biological data analysis and by participating in field activities such as nuisance wildlife response, aerial survey observation, and occasional wildlife capture efforts. Requirements

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in biology, a branch of biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, or natural resource management.
• At least 24 semester hours (36 quarter hours) in biology, a branch of biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, or natural resource management (excluding courses that focus on agricultural husbandry techniques, human population dynamics, or the design and manipulation of landscapes), of which 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) are upper division courses.
• At least 12 semester hours (16 quarter hours) in any combination of two or more of the following: chemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics, geology, hydrology, or GIS.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to carry and use a firearm.
• First Aid/CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both written and verbal, to convey regulations, present wildlife information, provide direction and resolve conflicts.
• Experience collecting, analyzing, and summarizing biological data and providing logistical support on wildlife surveys and complex field projects with an acute attention to detail.
• Experience coordinating a team and strong interpersonal skills to engage colleagues and the public while showing understanding, courtesy, friendliness and tact to others.
• Sound judgment and the ability to make well-informed and objective decisions while considering implications of those decisions and following through to accomplish goals.

• Deputization as a Fish and Game Peace Officer.
• Wildlife chemical immobilization certification.
