About The Position

LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of Wildlife exists to provide wise stewardship of Louisiana's wildlife and associated habitats and increase wildlife conservation awareness. This position is a Wildlife and Fisheries Technician A-C Career Progression Group position that receives direct supervision from a Technician Supervisor based in the Lake Charles field office. The incumbent will perform daily operations primarily on Clear Creek, Flatwoods Savanna, Fort Polk-Vernon, Fort Polk North, Marsh Bayou, Sabine Island, Walnut Hill, and West Bay Wildlife Management Areas as well as other wildlife management areas or Lake Charles region projects as needed. This position will participate in necessary construction and maintenance activities on Department buildings, grounds, roads, levees, equipment, camping areas, and water control structures. This position requires the physical ability to operate boats, ATV/UTVs, tractors, motor-grader, and other heavy equipment, handle 50 pound sacks of fertilizer, work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, and nights, and may be subject to 24-hour call.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in management activities including planting food plots, operating water control structures, conducting prescribed burns, marking property boundaries, and working managed hunts and bag checks
  • Utilizes, maintains, and transports equipment such as airboats, boats with outboard motors, ATV/UTVs, tractors with implements, trackhoes, bulldozers and motor graders
  • Makes recommendations concerning purchases of equipment, major repairs, and development projects
  • Participates in lethal and nonlethal collection of wildlife species for management and research utilizing firearms, baiting, corral traps, rocket nets, and bag checks
  • Provides data to biologists to be used in establishing management or research programs and setting harvest season dates and bag and size limits
  • Transports injured or nuisance animals
  • Works with landowners, other state agencies, federal agencies, and non-governmental organizations
  • Performs any duties necessary for the agency to accomplish its mission.
