About The Position

Cleveland State Community College is a comprehensive, two-year post-secondary institution, located in Cleveland, Tennessee. Instructors provide high-quality instruction that supports student learning and fosters a positive learning environment in the classroom. The primary responsibility is teaching and evaluating students in assigned courses. Instruction is delivered on-site throughout the college’s five-county service area and may also be offered through online teaching formats. Instructors communicate with students outside of class and perform a variety of administrative duties, including committee work, assessment, registration, and advising.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Agriculture, Forestry, Wildlife & Fisheries, Biology, or a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in qualifying coursework.
  • Teaching responsibilities may include one or more of the following areas: plant science, animal science, soil science, general ecology, environmental science, introductory forestry, wildlife and fisheries, conservation, introductory biology, and dendrology.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional practices and the ability to perform the responsibilities expected of a college-level instructor.
  • Knowledge of the mission, role, and functions of a comprehensive community college.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Ability to support student success through advising, student engagement, assessment activities, and participation in academic or institutional committees.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, or support educational and professional development opportunities for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and the ability to create documents, manage data, prepare reports, and support daily operations.
  • Demonstrated competency in the use and operation of instructional equipment and technologies relevant to the discipline.
  • Knowledge of available instructional media resources and their effective application in teaching and learning.
  • Proficiency in computer-related skills necessary for job performance, including instructional and administrative technologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FWF and agricultural tools, techniques, and practices, including the effective use and operation of field and laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain and manage field and laboratory equipment and supplies, including ensuring adequate stock levels for operational needs, where applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate as an Associate Wildlife Biologist or Certified Wildlife Biologist through The Wildlife Society, or interest in obtaining certification.
  • Experience with alternative instructional delivery methods, including hybrid, online, interactive, or other technology-supported teaching formats.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach classes as assigned in accordance with course descriptions, course syllabi, departmental guidelines, and approved instructional formats, including on-site instruction throughout the college’s five-county service area and online delivery as applicable.
  • Fulfill all instructional requirements required by Cleveland State Community College and the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR).
  • Remain current in the instructional field and in effective teaching methodologies.
  • Devote a minimum of 37.5 hours per week to the institution, maintain appropriate office hours, and obtain approval for any commitments that may affect employment responsibilities.
  • Be accessible to students for advising, academic assistance, and support based on the instructional format.
  • Participate in institutional and academic unit meetings.
  • Maintain and safeguard all required records and report grades as prescribed by the Registrar.
  • Comply with Cleveland State Community College and Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) policies and procedures.
  • Participate in division, student, and academic year evaluations as required by the college.
  • Support and participate in the college’s recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Perform public service and community engagement activities consistent with the institution’s mission and service area.
  • Support, promote, and serve as an advisor to campus clubs, student organizations, and other related student activities as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
