About The Position

Davidson-Davie Community College is seeking a full-time Biology Faculty member for a nine-month position. This role requires a campus presence with a primary focus on teaching and learning, academic excellence, and student success. The faculty member will be responsible for designing and implementing learning strategies for students in college transfer and health-related programs. This position reports directly to the Division Chair of Math, Science, Business & Technology.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree with 18 graduate credit hours in Biology
  • Teaching experience

Nice To Haves

  • Second teaching field in a science discipline (requires 18 graduate credit hours in a second field)
  • Graduate coursework in Anatomy & Physiology
  • Community College teaching experience
  • Experience using a Learning Management System, such as Canvas, to deliver course content

Responsibilities

  • Promote the college mission, vision and values
  • Teach assigned courses at various locations to meet program needs, including, but not limited to day, evening, weekend, and online
  • Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency
  • Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback
  • Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in the learning environment(s) to meet program needs
  • Develop course syllabi and provide appropriate written information to students concerning course evaluation and criteria
  • Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning
  • Assist in the evaluation of courses and programs
  • Prepare and submit instructional records, reports and grades established by institutional policy
  • Participate in professional development to enhance instructional and technical skills
  • Attend appropriate internal and external meetings
  • Assist in student recruitment and retention
  • Maintain accessibility to students, faculty and staff
  • Maintain a high level of sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Perform other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College
