GF Packing Specialist
About The Position
The Wide Format Packing & Quality Control Operator is responsible for inspecting, packing, and preparing wide format printed materials—including banners, signage, posters, displays, and graphics—for shipment or installation. This person ensures every finished piece meets company quality standards before it leaves production, while also protecting and packaging materials appropriately for transit. This position plays a critical role in catching defects before they reach the customer and ensuring wide format orders are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, quality-focused, dependable, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven production environment. Training will be provided on company quality standards, wide format materials handling, packing procedures, production workflow tools, and safety expectations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous wide format printing, packing, quality control, or production experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with a keen eye for identifying print and finishing defects.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn internal systems and quality documentation tools.
- Ability to read and interpret job instructions, quality standards, and packing/shipping documentation.
- Ability to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 40 lbs, including handling large or awkward wide format items.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Must be reliable, dependable, and committed to meeting quality and delivery standards.
Nice To Haves
- Forklift operation and Forklift experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Inspect finished wide format printed materials for color accuracy, print quality, trim/finishing accuracy, and overall defects prior to packing.
- Verify job specifications, quantities, dimensions, and finishing requirements against work orders before sign-off.
- Accurately pack and protect wide format products—including rolled banners, rigid substrates, mounted graphics, and large-format prints—to prevent damage during transit or storage.
- Select and apply appropriate packing materials (tubes, crating, padding, protective wrap) based on product type and size.
- Identify and flag quality issues such as scratches, bubbles, misprints, color shifts, or finishing defects, and communicate them to Production for correction.
- Work closely with Production, Prepress, and Customer Service to resolve quality concerns and meet deadlines.
- Maintain clean, organized, and efficient packing and staging areas while following safety and quality standards.
- Label, stage, and prepare completed orders for shipment or will-call pickup according to job instructions.
- Assist with inventory organization of packing materials and supplies as needed.
- Document quality checks and packing activity as required by company procedures.
- Follow established processes and contribute ideas for improving quality control, packing efficiency, and workflow.
- Must be able to work overtime when necessary to support production deadlines and customer commitments.
