Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of previous office experience.
  • Ability to successfully complete the Colorado WIC Certification Program: Level I within 3 months of hire. Levels II and III within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • High level of computer proficiency.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including low-income families, infants, and young children.
  • Commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles, healthy eating habits, and physical activity.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Previous experience in nutrition, public health, healthcare, or customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome participants and create a friendly, supportive environment that encourages trust and engagement.
  • Explain WIC program benefits and assist participants with the application process in person and over the phone.
  • Schedule appointments and follow up with participants who miss appointments.
  • Educate participants on the Colorado WIC Program Allowable Foods List and healthy nutrition practices.
  • Explain nutritional risk factors, food packages, and the nutrients provided through the WIC program.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles, including nutrition, physical activity, and breastfeeding.
  • Complete participant intake in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct health assessments, including height, weight, length, hemoglobin testing, and nutrition screenings.
  • Determine and document program eligibility and identify nutritional risk factors.
  • Develop individualized nutrition education plans and establish participant-centered behavior change goals.
  • Tailor WIC food packages to meet participant needs and issue food benefits.
  • Promote and support breastfeeding, including education, follow-up, breast pump distribution, inventory management, and cleaning.
  • Identify high-risk participants and coordinate referrals to WIC professionals, healthcare providers, and community resources.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality while providing compassionate, culturally sensitive care.
  • Answer and direct phone calls professionally.
  • Assist participants who need help completing forms or documentation.
  • Maintain accurate participant records and ensure timely completion of required reports.
  • Conduct and participate in internal chart audits.
  • Order and maintain clinic supplies, educational materials, office inventory, and WIC resources.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained, tested, and functioning properly.
  • Maintain clinic manuals, forms, and policy documentation.
  • Participate in outreach events to promote WIC services within the community.
  • Monitor and process referrals through the WIC Referral System and NextGen.
  • Complete additional coordinator responsibilities as assigned, including roles such as: Breastfeeding Coordinator, Retail Coordinator, WIC Referral System Coordinator, Outreach Coordinator.
  • Complete assigned coordinator duties with minimal supervision while ensuring program compliance.
