About The Position

Esplanade at Starling is seeking a driven individual to join their team as a Wellness & Sports Manager. This role involves overseeing the daily operations and administrative functions of The Venue/Lodge, Resort Pool, and Sports programming, with a focus on delivering an exceptional, lifestyle-driven wellness experience that prioritizes member satisfaction, engagement, and retention. The manager will be responsible for developing and executing programming that drives active participation and meaningful membership, requiring hands-on leadership across all wellness verticals. This position serves as the operational leader for all wellness amenities, balancing hospitality, programming, financial performance, facility excellence, and member engagement. The manager will also lead vendor and independent contractor relationships, ensuring all programming, policies, and procedures meet the highest standards while fostering a culture of service excellence. Success in this role is measured by member satisfaction, engagement levels, program participation, community activation, and financial performance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Personal Training certification from a nationally recognized and accredited organization (e.g., ACSM, NASM, NSCA, etc.).
  • Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid, or a willingness to become certified within the first 90 days.
  • 2-3 years of experience and/or the equivalent in experience and training in a private, member-owned club/space.
  • 2-3 years of experience leading a team.
  • Strong leadership, management, and motivational skills.
  • Ability to interact with associates at all levels within and outside the company.
  • Thorough knowledge of numerous spa modalities.
  • General understanding of body treatments, fitness, and group fitness programming.
  • Willingness to train in specific service offerings.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with members in an appropriate tone and manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • High level of energy, initiative, enthusiasm, and cooperation.
  • Good judgment and discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, and operating systems such as POS (Mindbody/ Jonas Club Software).
  • Comfort with public speaking.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Conflict resolution strategies.
  • Must be able to perform moderate physical work and may be required to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 30 lbs. frequently.
  • Perform activities such as bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, lifting, and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting.
  • Extremely strong organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to lead a team in a collegial environment.
  • Ability to learn software systems (Google Forms, MailChimp) and understand registration processes, policies, procedures, equipment, materials, products, etc.
  • Actively and visibly involved in all areas of programming to ensure a consistent, high-quality member experience.
  • Direct oversight of program execution, enforcement of departmental policies and procedures, facilitation of open-play programming, and consistent reinforcement of guest policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as Fitness and/or Wellness Manager or Head Teaching Professional.
  • College Education - Bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operation and administrative functions of The Venue/Lodge, Resort Pool, and Sports programming.
  • Develop, execute, and continuously evolve programming to drive active participation, meaningful membership, and high visibility.
  • Serve as the operational leader for all wellness amenities, balancing hospitality, programming, financial performance, facility excellence, and member engagement.
  • Lead all vendor and independent contractor relationships.
  • Ensure all programming, policies, and procedures are executed to the highest standard.
  • Foster a culture centered on service excellence and member experience.
  • Recruit, select, train, supervise, schedule, manage, and evaluate the Wellness team.
  • Develop and monitor training and education opportunities for subordinates.
  • Handle discipline and termination of subordinates in accordance with HR Department and company policy.
  • Manage spa programming, fitness programming, sports programming, and resort pool programming.
  • Oversee guest policy administration and enforcement.
  • Manage wellness center and locker room operations.
  • Oversee on-site laundry operations supporting wellness and spa services.
  • Manage wellness vendors, independent contractors, and programming partners.
  • Oversee specialty wellness amenities and recovery experiences.
  • Ensure departments operate in compliance with all applicable laws, licenses, and insurance.
  • Plan, develop, and implement policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Assist in developing and adhering to the budget for Wellness programming and Sports.
  • Attend Department Head meetings and communicate relevant information to staff and vendors.
  • Order and maintain adequate inventory levels.
  • Maintain all transactions in JONAS/Mindbody.
  • Oversee wellness technology platforms.
  • Implement/program the Venue and Sports marketing strategy.
  • Increase facility attendance by establishing accurate records.
  • Implement ongoing promotions to drive product and service sales.
  • Maintain a strong planning and programming calendar.
  • Monitor and evaluate product offerings and recommend changes.
  • Edit all mass communications for consistency, content, and tone.
  • Oversee the flow of information to members.
  • Be visibly present in The Venue and on the Sports during peak periods.
  • Ensure full coverage of wellness and court professional staff.
  • Ensure all equipment and supplies are stocked and well-maintained.
  • Conduct routine operational inspections and quarterly facility assessments.
  • Create a work environment that promotes positivity, teamwork, and employee satisfaction.
  • Greet members and guests and oversee coordination of requests, issues/complaints.
  • Provide outstanding service to members and guests.
  • Oversee the maintenance of all equipment in the facility.
  • Provide strong leadership and a valued work ethic.
  • Ensure all programming and services are executed with a focus on member satisfaction, engagement, and quality of experience.
  • Actively participate in wellness, fitness, and sports programming.
  • Oversee and facilitate open play programming.
  • Consistently enforce guest policies.
  • Evaluate programming success based on participation, engagement, and member feedback.
  • Serve as the primary driver of member satisfaction, engagement, and retention.
  • Maintain high visibility and presence during peak hours to engage with members.
  • Actively teach group fitness classes, provide member orientations, and deliver personal training services.
  • Ensure all programming is intentionally designed to create connection, community, and repeat participation.
  • Actively solicit, evaluate, and respond to member feedback.
  • Monitor participation trends and adjust programming.
  • Lead by example in delivering a hospitality-driven, service-first culture.
  • Assist members in using the online scheduling software.
  • Attend and participate in monthly Wellness Program meetings.
  • Provide a monthly report detailing current programming.
  • Maintain an up-to-date calendar of events.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with other club professionals.
  • Seek ways to improve workflow efficiency.
  • Explore ways to improve all aspects of the club and member experience.
  • Troubleshoot with outsourced IT companies.
  • Coordinate with club leaders to ensure all aspects are aligned with events.
  • Complete and submit payroll and vendor check requests.
  • Handle monthly billing and payment of staff and vendor sales commissions.
  • Inspect and maintain cleanliness, organization, safety, and repair throughout the facility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
