About The Position

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Wellness Program Manager in the Director’s Office of our Bureau of Administrative and Support Services at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to: Serving as the Department-wide Manager of Wellness and Psychological Services, and is responsible for strategic development, administration, and oversight of statewide psychological wellness programs for sworn and professional staff employees. Providing senior-level clinical leadership. Developing policies and standards. Ensuring regulatory and ethical compliance. Serving as the Department’s principal expert on law-enforcement behavioral health. Directing licensed clinical social workers, contractors, and support staff. Advising executive leadership. Ensuring effective, evidence-based service delivery across the Commonwealth.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of police and public safety psychology including assessment, clinical intervention, crisis response, operational support, resilience strategies, and wellness based practices.
  • Knowledge of counseling and clinical psychology principles.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic methods.
  • Knowledge of psychometric testing.
  • Knowledge of evidence based treatment approaches.
  • Competency in public safety behavioral health standards, including ethical practice, crisis intervention, peer support integration, and organizational consultation.
  • Ability to design, implement and direct behavioral health and wellness programs using recognized best practices in public safety and clinical psychology.
  • Ability to supervise licensed clinicians.
  • Ability to interpret clinical data for leadership.
  • Ability to manage confidential information.
  • Ability to provide expert consultation.
  • Ability to oversee psychometric instruments, clinical protocols, diagnostic evaluations, and security sensitive testing materials used in law enforcement settings.
  • Ability to conduct diagnostic interviews, formulate treatment recommendations, and coordinate care with internal and external providers.
  • Ability to prepare administrative, programmatic, and analytical reports.
  • Ability to oversee the development of wellness materials and educational resources.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Department personnel, clinicians, community partners, clients, subordinates, associates, law enforcement, medical personnel, and the public.
  • Ability to apply culturally informed, trauma aware practices in service delivery and program development.
  • Master’s degree in clinical or counseling psychology, clinical social work, or a related field.
  • Licensure in Virginia as a mental health professional (LCP, LCSW, LPC).
  • Extensive experience providing clinical services in law enforcement, first responder, or trauma exposed environment.
  • Experience directing psychological or behavioral health programs and supervising licensed clinicians.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Board certification or eligibility for certification in a recognized specialty area of police and public safety psychology.
