About The Position

The Wellness Program Coordinator will assist in coordinating, scheduling, and supporting Black Health & Wellness (BHW) events, clinics, and outreach initiatives across Durham Region. Supervised by the Manager, Black Health & Wellness, the coordinator will gain hands-on experience in community program management, health equity promotion, and culturally safe care delivery. This position supports students from African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) communities, aligning with CSJ priorities. The role develops leadership, program coordination, and communication skills while contributing to DCHC’s health equity mandate. The coordinator will strengthen operations within the Black Health & Wellness portfolio and gain exposure to real-world health promotion and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Proof of attending post-secondary education as of September 2026 or have completed a diploma or degree
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in program coordination, health promotion and community engagement.
  • Organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable managing multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and software applications (Microsoft/Excel)
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Current Criminal Reference Check (including Vulnerable Sector Screening), if in the age range of 18-30.
  • Valid “G” Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 is mandatory for this position (DCHC will however adhere to its duty to accommodate those who are unable to be fully vaccinated for a reason related to a human rights protected ground).
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year; or have completed a diploma or a degree
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting planning, logistics, and communications for health promotion activities, community fairs, and pop-up wellness clinics.
  • Coordinating volunteers and vendors.
  • Tracking attendance, collecting feedback, and assisting with report preparation.
  • Supporting the creation of culturally relevant educational materials and community outreach content.
  • Liaising with partners and team members to ensure effective coordination.
  • Participating in weekly team meetings and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
