About The Position

Minth North America, Inc. is seeking a Welding & Assembly Operator for the Sheet Metal Welding Workshop of the Production Department in Gadsden, Alabama. The role performs precise pre-welding assembly and fixturing of sheet metal components for energy storage cabinets. The operator locates, assembles, clamps, and pre-assembles parts to drawing requirements before welding; assembly accuracy directly affects weld quality and cabinet dimensional accuracy. Daily work includes operating welding fixtures, inspecting assemblies, managing workstation materials, and safely handling heavy sheet metal parts. The position is performed on the manufacturing floor. Required PPE includes safety shoes, cut-resistant gloves, goggles, and a hard hat. Parts weighing more than 25 kg must be handled with lifting equipment or by a two-person lift. Minth describes itself as a global leader in automotive trim and structural components, with 78 plants worldwide and a North American regional headquarters in Wixom, Michigan. The company highlights an international development platform, a growing team, opportunities to improve technical and professional expertise, a multicultural workplace, and competitive compensation.

  • More than 1 year of sheet metal or mechanical assembly experience.
  • Ability to read mechanical assembly drawings and welding symbols under GB/AWS standards.
  • Familiarity with measuring tape, caliper, feeler gauge, angle gauge, and similar tools.
  • Understanding of how to identify common sheet metal defects, including deformation, burrs, and hole-position deviations.
  • Ability to use pneumatic and manual clamping devices.
  • Welding operation certificate, issued after post-employment training and assessment.
  • Legally authorized to work in the country of the work location.
  • Technical/vocational school diploma or above.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience assembling energy storage, distribution, or server cabinets.
  • A major in mechanical manufacturing, welding technology, mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Strong quality mindset and attention to detail, including the discipline to stop and escalate when parts are out of tolerance.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and consistent 5S habits.
  • Good teamwork with welding operators and line leaders.
  • Willingness to learn new models, fixtures, and process requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble sheet metal components, including side plates, top and bottom plates, frames, and partitions, according to assembly drawings and process documents.
  • Use locating pins, jigs, and fixtures to position components precisely and keep assembly gaps and misalignments within process tolerances.
  • Install internal stiffeners, mounting brackets, lifting ear plates, and other welding attachments in the correct positions and at the correct angles.
  • Measure and confirm key cabinet positioning dimensions and record the measured data.
  • Operate pneumatic and manual welding fixtures, placing and clamping workpieces for reliable positioning.
  • Inspect fixture locating surfaces and pins for wear or looseness before assembly and promptly report abnormalities for maintenance.
  • Complete fixture changeovers according to model-change work instructions, assist process engineers with initial debugging, and help with routine fixture inspection and basic maintenance.
  • Self-inspect assemblies for component quantity, assembly direction, gap uniformity, and clamping reliability using measuring tools to confirm compliance with drawing tolerances.
  • Mark each workpiece as qualified, to be welded, or unqualified, and maintain process records.
  • Stop work and report to the line leader when incoming parts are defective, including parts that are deformed, out of tolerance, or have hole-position deviations.
  • Collect materials from the line-side warehouse or semi-finished area according to the production work order and verify quantity, specification, and batch number.
  • Place assembled components neatly in the pre-welding area and protect them from collision, scratches, and deformation.
  • Maintain 5S at the workstation, sort and dispose of surplus and waste material, return excess material to the warehouse, and keep the material ledger current.
  • Assist welding operators with flipping and moving workpieces.
  • Attend pre-shift meetings, safety and quality training, and emergency drills.
