Robotic Welding Operator

Minth North America•Gadsden, AL
•$20 - $25•Onsite

About The Position

The Robotic Welding Operator joins the Sheet Metal Welding Workshop of the Production Department at Minth North America, Inc. in Gadsden, Alabama. The role operates and programs robotic welding workstations to produce consistent, high-quality automated welds on energy storage cabinet structural parts. Duties include selecting and confirming programs, setting welding parameters, monitoring the process, inspecting welds, maintaining equipment, and supporting production quality and efficiency. The position works on a manufacturing floor in a welding environment. It requires standing and walking, wearing welding PPE, using a robot teach pendant and programming software, and reading drawings and process data. The environment involves exposure to welding fumes, heat, and noise; fume collection and ventilation must be maintained. The essential functions may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

  • More than 1 year of welding robot operation experience, including the ability to independently complete teaching programming and parameter adjustments.
  • Proficiency operating at least one mainstream welding robot brand: FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa.
  • Mastery of robot teaching programming methods, including online teaching and offline programming.
  • Ability to read welding drawings and symbols, including AWS D1.1 / GB/T 985 standards.
  • Understanding of how welding parameters such as current, voltage, speed, and gas affect weld quality.
  • Ability to identify and eliminate common welding defects, including porosity, cracks, lack of fusion, and undercut.
  • Basic mechanical, electrical, and air-circuit troubleshooting skills.
  • Welding robot operator certificate.
  • Legally authorized to work in the country of the work location.
  • Technical or vocational school diploma or above.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • A major in mechatronics, welding technology, industrial robotics, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate welding robot workstations, including FANUC, ABB, or KUKA systems, to weld energy storage cabinet structural parts.
  • Select the correct welding program for each product model and confirm its version and welding parameters.
  • Monitor arc stability, weld formation, and spatter; stop and adjust the process when abnormalities occur.
  • Maintain weld quality, including consistent appearance and appropriate reinforcement, without porosity, undercut, or lack of fusion.
  • Monitor multiple robot workstations and coordinate clamping, welding, and unloading cycles with assembly operators.
  • Teach programs for new products and model changes by guiding the torch along the weld seam and recording path points.
  • Set and optimize welding parameters, including current, voltage, travel speed, wire feed speed, shielding gas flow, and weaving; adjust welding sequence and arc positions to reduce deformation and spatter.
  • Back up debugged programs, maintain program-version records, and begin batch production after first-piece confirmation.
  • Inspect robot equipment and related systems daily, and replace consumables such as contact tips, nozzles, wire feed rollers, torch cleaning blades, and anti-spatter nozzles.
  • Troubleshoot common alarms, including wire-feed issues, insufficient shielding gas flow, torch collisions, and program errors; calibrate TCP and workpiece coordinate systems regularly.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, including lubrication, cleaning, and tightening.
  • Inspect first pieces for dimensions and weld appearance at each batch or model change, obtain first-piece tag sign-off, and conduct random inspections during production.
  • Support weld nondestructive testing (VT/MT/PT/UT), assess nonconforming welds for repair or scrap, and complete welding process records.
  • Follow robot and hot-work safety procedures, use required PPE, ensure fume collection is operating, clear combustibles, complete hot-work approval, and maintain 5S.
  • Work collaboratively with assembly operators, quality inspectors, and process engineers.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package.
  • International development platform and opportunities to grow technical and professional expertise.
  • A dynamic team that values ownership and results.
  • Multicultural, multinational working atmosphere that values different backgrounds and perspectives.
