About The Position

Lay out, fit, and weld metal components to assemble beds, frames, and small parts work orders. This role requires adherence to safety standards, analysis of drawings and specifications, and precise execution of welding tasks. The welder will monitor processes, evaluate weld quality, and perform various welding positions. The position involves working with welding equipment and potentially grinding and filing metal components. Other duties may be assigned by the Welding Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to read, write, count, and communicate by various channels.
  • Must have appropriate high school, vocational-technology school, or trade school training/certification in welding and/or demonstrated ability/expertise from on-the-job training from previous employment.
  • Understand fundamentals of metallurgy as they relate to welding.
  • Ability to read a tape measure.
  • Ability to read and fully comprehend work instructions, prints, and work specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, fit, and weld metal components to assemble beds, frames, and small parts work orders.
  • Analyze drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications, using a variety of measuring tools.
  • Tack-weld or weld component and assemblies using welding equipment.
  • Monitor welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisor.
  • Evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
  • Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances using appropriate measuring instruments.
  • Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinder or hand file.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Ignite torch and adjust valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by Welding Supervisor.
