About The Position

This role involves joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable materials using appropriate welding techniques and equipment. The welder will interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and schematics to determine correct welding processes, and inspect completed welds to ensure structural soundness and quality. Responsibilities include setting up and preparing components for welding, operating angle grinders and other tools, and aligning components using calipers, rulers, and measuring tools. The welder will perform welding in various positions using manual or semi-automatic equipment, repair machinery and components, and test and inspect welded surfaces. Maintaining welding equipment and work areas in a safe condition and passing Welder Qualification examinations are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of welding experience
  • GED or high school diploma required
  • Welding carbon and stainless steel using SMAW (Stick) and GTAW (TIG) processes
  • Full penetration pipe welding, including standard and dissimilar materials
  • GTAW Hardface overlay with Stellite or similar materials
  • Casting repair welding
  • Ability to read and interpret weld symbols, technical documents, blueprints, and drawings
  • Willing to demonstrate welding ability prior to employment

Nice To Haves

  • Dissimilar metals in common joint configurations
  • Thin-wall materials (e.g., bellows assemblies)
  • CuNi and other non-ferrous valve materials using SMAW and GTAW
  • Professional certification preferred (e.g., AWS welding certification)

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding in various positions (vertical, horizontal, and overhead) using manual or semi-automatic equipment
  • Repair machinery and components by welding parts and filling gaps
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to identify defects or inconsistencies
  • Maintain welding equipment and work areas in a condition that meets all safety standards
  • Successfully pass Welder Qualification examinations in accordance with ASME B&PV Code Sec. IX
